If you are still under factory warrantee, it should be covered. If your like me and way out of factory warrantee, you screwed. Extended warrantee won't cover it. I feel your pain. Search and you shall find similar problems.

I also have the small hole on the driver's side No water leaks though and so I'll wait until it does. I still need to replace my CV joint, so that's going to get done before this.

Mine doesn't leak either. Do you guys with the wear hole still continue to lower and raise the top? I have unhappily kept my top up ever since I discovered the wear hole, for fear of it spreading. Just curious what others are doing...I'd like to continue to use my convertible top, but don't want to do it if it'll cause the hole to enlarge.

My opinion cyber_x ...

I purchased a ragtop & I did so because I wanted to drop the top as muuuuuuuuuuch and as oooooooften as God & Mother Nature would allow. If the top tears more, sobeit [its already torn, right? ]. The hole is in a terrible place to repair...even if repair is possible. So seeing the tear expand is not going to much help.

Now, if you want to retard the tear, I guess there is no harm in applying some good 'ol duct tape from the inside .

But for the love of freedom... Drop That Top!!!

As mentioned...I suffer from this same tear & just have yet to do something about it. However, not unlike yourself, it would be prudent to go ahead and fix 'er up somewhat rather than let things continue to unravel as it were.

In my mind, I plan to apply some duct tape to the back side. Perhaps even some silicone sealant and *then* the duct tape. Also figuring to apply *something* to "that underlying metal piece" as well. Will need to look at it better to see what I can apply there (perhaps a "bead" of silicone sealant there as well...and as it sets up, I'll just shape it into a rounder form over that of the slicing metal edge).

Sitting in my driver's seat & then turning to my left (mines on the driver's side of the top), I can actually *see* the hole, the mechanism, etc. from inside the car. So I figure this is fairly accessible for some timely repair to stave off further damage.

Oh...and sometime back I saw a FS post where a guy was selling his softtop that had the same tear. However, his tear was roughly 2 1/2" long...so my assumption is that, with time, sun, and flexing, the small tear can become a larger one.

Cool, thanks for the input man...my wear hole is on the passenger side, but I can also see it and the metal piece from inside the car. I haven't really bothered taking a good, serious look at it, but will do so when spring comes around and my itch to drop the top grows. Please keep me posted on any potential solutions you come across...

Also, just for the sake of reference, my wear hole is vertical, whereas the one in the above picture is horizontal. Looks to be the same area and cause, though.

There have been quite a few threads about this. Can this be placed in the FAQs?
