That seems to be the 1st question that needs to be answered.
It seems that there is no "set" limit. I think they just want some paperwork stating/proving that it's not a mass produced car, or something that proves the car has collector status. I think I got what I need.

Furthermore, insurance companies wont just insure any car you want as a collector car, they have their own qualifications, and the s2000 qualifies.

I have the Honda numbers from Honda that someone posted above, and I also have a chart someone made on here showing the breakdown of year/color, etc. I think those two should suffice, and if it doesn't, I'll just get my lawyer involved.

wow, one of my cars is number 986 of 1,133 produced and its not a collector car.

Another of my cars is 233 of 254 produced and its not a collector car.

And they will allow a mass produced car like the S to be a collector car ?

look out on making this car a collector car, in Calif. once the car is registered as a collector car it can't go back to a normal registration so I assume it will kill your resale value as the next owner would also be limited to 3,000 miles/year, I know you said it was a keeper, I said the same thing about my FIAT 124 Spider but after 34 years I sold it anyway, feelings do change over time.

I will look into this, but according to NJ, if you go over the 3000 mile mark, you will be forced into going back to normal registration, so I don't think it will be an issue. However, I will check this out.

Remember, CA is....well.....to put it mildly....retarded in their laws.

Well said, especially coming from someone that will only drive an S2000 less than 3000 miles a year.

Many people, especially here, will think that's retarded.

Well, I have a full time 60-80 hour a week job, a newborn baby, and a life outside my cars, when do you think I have time to drive around more than 3000 miles a year?

Well, then owning and S2k might be seen as retarded. But not in your case, right? You put 20k in the car on top of that.

Now that's priceless. But to each their own. Just stop throwing rocks when you live under a glass roof.

No inspection as far as state registration is concerned. Helps me out since my car is turboed with no cat blah blah blah.

Negative is you are limited to 3000 miles a year, but I no longer drive any more than that, so it's perfect for me.

As far as having collector car insurance, the benefits are great. First of all, the car is NOT insured on KBB value, but whatever you say it is. My car is insured for $50,000, which covers ALL of my work (audio, turbo, wheels, suspension, etc etc).

Second, the cost is far less than normal insurance.

I rarely drive my car nowadays due to my new baby and work schedule, so the 3000 mile a year restriction is not a problem for me. I daily drive my 09 CRV and when the wife returns from maternity leave in November, she will use the CRV and I will get myself another car (either an MDX, new 5 series, etc.) I haven't touched my s2000 since April (Dragon) and just this past weekend I took it around the block to move the fluids around, and washed/waxed it. For me, it's a keeper, and I plan on keeping the car forever as a collector car, so it makes sense....for me.
Good luck...it would make me go for it as well. Wonder if the NJ DMV would notice a whole bunch of S2K's popping up for this. Let me know how it goes.

I have driven my car 300 miles since it's been up here. And a total of 500 in over 16 months. My insurance requires that I drive less than 7500 a year to get cheaper insurance. I too bought a CRV because I became a dad: at the hands of trading in 2 cars, one the Lexus IS.

Nicely done with the family and congrats.

P.S. I too am retarded.
