Well, then owning and S2k might be seen as retarded. But not in your case, right? You put 20k in the car on top of that. Now that's priceless. But to each their own. Just stop throwing rocks when you live under a glass roof.
Did it ever cross your mind that I bought the car in 2003, had a lot of fun with it, and then life changed a little bit? Did it ever occur to you that I have enough money to KEEP the car despite all these life changes, and want it insured for the full $50000 rather than $15,000? Did it ever occur to you that I don't want to do inspections every year by slapping a CAT on my car which I drive occasionally on a nice sunny day?
If you have nothing useful to say, get out of my thread.

Good luck...it would make me go for it as well. Wonder if the NJ DMV would notice a whole bunch of S2K's popping up for this. Let me know how it goes.
I have driven my car 300 miles since it's been up here. And a total of 500 in over 16 months. My insurance requires that I drive less than 7500 a year to get cheaper insurance. I too bought a CRV because I became a dad: at the hands of trading in 2 cars, one the Lexus IS.
Nicely done with the family and congrats.
P.S. I too am retarded.

Interestingly enough, the 911 Turbo guys are getting denied, because according to the DMV, the 911 is Porsche's main car, and it's not "rare" so it's a no go for them. NSX's do qualify.
I am currently in process of transferring the title over from NY, and then I will send my packet in...
As evidence, I have....
1)A letter from the insurance company (Hagerty) that the car does meet their discriminate requirements for being an exotic/collector car
2)Xerox of the Forbes magazine article calling the s2000 a future classic.
3)Documentation of the Honda s600 to prove that these cars have a history
4)Honda Sales numbers
All that should be enough. If you get denied, you can appeal it, but I don't think I will have a problem.
Will post updates of my endeavor.

You posted your opinion and I posted mine. I don't see why are you getting all you panties in a bunch. It's not about California. It's not even about their laws. It's about posting a judgement and then expecting everyone to agree. And when someone calls you out and points out that what you are doing with your car being *cough* reasonable *cough*, you get all up in arms. Well, sorry. Didn't know you were so insecure about your car choices.
This thread is all about misleading an insurance company into thinking that the S2000 is a collector's car just so you can save a buck and skip inspections. And you want help? Right. Not that I am insurance police or anything, but what you are trying to do is questionable.
You have enjoyed the car for 8 years, great.
You have the money to play as you see fit, awesome.
You don't feel like dealing with temporarily legalizing your car in order to pass inspection, well I'm not that big of an ass to write a letter to the DMV right now - or am I?
You want me to post something useful, well, when it comes down to insurance fraud I really don't have anything useful to say. At least not useful in the way you want to ...
You want me to get out of "your" thread, well my butthurted communist self don't feel like it.

1) I didn't ask for ANY OPINIONS.
2)I am not trying to fake or fraud an insurance company. A very large classic car insurance company gave the s2000 exotic status, and will insure it as such. For someone like me, who doesn't drive their car a lot, having it insured for FULL VALUE is a big deal. Did mommy and daddy teach you the difference between $15000 and $50000? Probably not. Furthermore, this insurance is CHEAPER, and it makes no sense for me to pay what I am paying for a car I barely drive. Insurance doesn't even have anything to do with this thread. This thread is about the NJ DMV. Again, reading 101 isn't your strong suit. NJ DMV DOES NOT = Insurance company.
3)I came here asking for help LOCATING DOCUMENTATION, not if people thought it was a good idea.
Who exactly did I pass judgement on? California law makers? Show me where I passed judgement on anyone....(except you of course.)

No inspection as far as state registration is concerned. Helps me out since my car is turboed with no cat blah blah blah.
Negative is you are limited to 3000 miles a year, but I no longer drive any more than that, so it's perfect for me.
As far as having collector car insurance, the benefits are great. First of all, the car is NOT insured on KBB value, but whatever you say it is. My car is insured for $50,000, which covers ALL of my work (audio, turbo, wheels, suspension, etc etc).
Second, the cost is far less than normal insurance.
I rarely drive my car nowadays due to my new baby and work schedule, so the 3000 mile a year restriction is not a problem for me. I daily drive my 09 CRV and when the wife returns from maternity leave in November, she will use the CRV and I will get myself another car (either an MDX, new 5 series, etc.) I haven't touched my s2000 since April (Dragon) and just this past weekend I took it around the block to move the fluids around, and washed/waxed it. For me, it's a keeper, and I plan on keeping the car forever as a collector car, so it makes sense....for me.

Only about getting the car registered in the DMV right ...
You don't even remember what you write. No wonder you think this is ok.I know you did not ask for opinions, I just felt like giving mine.
