Hi guys my name is Mike I'm 21 years old about to be 22 I have a acura tsx leased and the lease will be up in September. As much as I like this car its a automatic boring car just gets me to work, school,... I have saved up about 5K and want to buy a used car my budget is about 25K maxxxx. Here is my question guys I have been looking about and saw that 06-07 S2k's run for around that much a little bit less. There are a few more cars I like that are around that price like the Evo 9, 06-07 WRX STI, brand new civic SI, GTI, 03-04 E46 M3,... list goes on. Here is my question I want your guys oppinions I know a lot of you have thought about the cars i just listed before buying you S2K I want to know Y you picked the S2k over those car? And Y?

Out of those cars I was seriously thinking about an M3 convertible and also a Z4 which you didn't mention. The reason I didn't chose those 2 was because it was going to be my daily driver. In 9 months of ownership I already put 18k+ miles. So I wanted a little bit of Honda reliability.

 

The S2000 is not just a hotter version of "regular" car. It is a car that is designed from the ground up to be a high performance sports car. I think the S2000s are pretty bullet-proof, they have very high reliability ratings even though many are pushed to the limit. I also like that the car is fairly rare. I rarely see a car like mine. If you want a car that is just a "sporty" version of a regular car then the S2000 is not the car. If you want a true sports car, then it probably is. I almost forgot.... I love that it is a convertible. In the nice weather this factor is priceless. Since you are bored with your current car, it may well be that the S2000 provides the right level of excitement for you. Good luck with your decision.

 

The cars you have listed are very different from each other and very different from an S2k. I would suggest listing what you're looking for in a car and start there. Narrow the list and then start test driving.

 

If you're considering the S2k, why not an earlier with identical performance numbers for ~$10k - 15k less?

As for why I picked the S2k:
rwd/irs (not interested too much in awd)
reasonably lightweight (or rather, not obscenely obese)
excellent balance (49F/51R with driver and half a tank of fuel)
beautiful design
decent power/weight

 

as dave2k already mentioned in his post, the s2k was meant to be a true sports car from the ground up when Honda went forward with the project (they launched the s2k to celebrate the company's 50th anniversary, their roots in racing, and their older "s" models).

when I was looking around for my new ride, I had a list of multiple cars too (350z, 370z, sti, evo, etc.) I did a bunch of research and test drove them all and eventually narrowed it down to RWD cars. Then I narrowed it down to the s2k because that was the car that made me enjoy the driving experience the most. Everytime that I got out of the car, all I wanted to do was jump right back in. the other cars were cool in their own way, but they didn't stir my "driving spirit" like the s2k did. and the whole drop-top factor simply adds to the whole driving experience; there's a sense of freedom and a greater feeling of "hitting the open road".

Anyway, as corny as it sounds, you just need to follow your heart with this stuff.

Thanx a lot guys Great help I have been looking around from all the cars I look at they may be faster or more comfortable... blah blah blah but I always come back to the S2K and start looking for some mods I can buy as soon as I get the car lol. I know dont even have the car already have the mod bug

The S is addictive, but if its your only car and your daily driver that may wear off. But I not as much as a more vanilla car.
