Do you need to lower the S2000, if you go up to 17" wheels. I have a friend with 18" and no drop, it looks ok. I don't really want to lower my car, but I am afraid that a 40 series tire on a 17 will leave more fender gap than the beefy 16's. What is a good spring for the S2000????? Thanks a lot.

Have you confirmed that the stock diameter of 24.9 inches will match the 17 inch x 40 series tire you are choosing?

First, I would assure the stock diameter is used as the baseline for any tire / wheel choice, as changing the stock diameter changes everything related to the car (gearing, speedometer, engineering design intent, etc.) IMHO.
