I'm finally ready to get a cat-back. It'll be a nice complement to the JR filter on the way. Although I like the Comptech the best, I just can't justify spending that much (which also puts Mugen and RM Racing out of the question since they are even more expensive but really nice). So I think I've narrowed it down to Neuspeed (and I'm sorry that I missed out on the last group buy).

I've got a few questions that will hopefully get answered:

1) A few people have claimed that the Neuspeed cat-back is really made by Borla. Is there proof of this? Do the mufflers have "Borla" stamped in them? I also remember someboday saying that one of the parties wasn't aware of the link to the other (or won't admit to it). So which is it?

2) I've seen the MPEGs of the Neuspeed (I like the sound). I know a few people here have the Borla. Any chance of some MPEGs of the Borla? Do they sound the same?

3) I'm not sure if I like the Neuspeed tips. The Borla system uses tips with rolled edges. Any pictures of it? Are they the same diameter? Will the stock tips fit on the Neuspeed (or are they smaller diameter)?

Thanks for the help.

Yes, the system is made by Borla (as verified by comment from Neuspeed employee). I'm not sure if there is anywhere "Borla" is stamped, but there is a "Neuspeed" label on the tip. I think the Neuspeed tip is different than the Borla tip.

Wow, only one response after a day. I thought there would be more.

After doing some searching here, I answered some of the easy questions. I now realize that the stock tips won't fit on the Neuspeed (duh!). So it was a stupid question.

S2WOOOW's response was enough for me to believe that Borla does make Neuspeed's cat-back. Thanks S2WOOOW.

I'm still wondering what the Borla cat-back looks and sounds like. Anybody have an pictures at least? I know it doesn't look anything like the Borla I have on my Grand Cherokee (with dual square "intercooler" tips). Borla doesn't have any pictures of the S2000 kit on their site.

How difficult is it to get the stock system off of the car? I had a helluva time getting the stock system off of my Grand Cherokee.

I don't even own one, but I do have a ZJ also. The Neuspeed website may have a picture of one, I know the catalog does.

How's the exhaust on the ZJ. I tow a boat (~3500lbs) quit a bit, do you tow? Does it help?

I was at Neuspeed on Monday and the engineer confirmed that Neuspeed have a contract with Borla, but that they also have a second (unnamed) souce which produces identical exhausts to the same specs.

I had them take the tips off my N. exhaust. IMO, it looks sportier with the 3" tips exposed.

I can't imagine that Borla would sell systems to Neuspeed for the S2K that were different that the ones they sell directly to the same market.

I had an independant Honda service shop install the exhaust. It can be difficult getting the stock one off (according to a post a few days ago). It's also very heavy. The Neuspeed is relatively easy to install - because it comes in 5 pieces (I think) which are interconnected by clamps.

1Y2KS2K: Thanks for the info. The hardest part of removing the stock exhaust on my ZJ was that the clamp just downstream from the cat basically crimped the two pipes together. I had to make several cuts in the pipe and peel it back like a banana. I also cut the pipe downstream from the stock muffler to break the stock system into two pieces. Spent about 4 hours removing the old system and 45 minutes install the new system.

S2WOOOW: I don't tow with my ZJ. I've installed the Mopar Magnum ECU (good for 24 more HP, 25 lb-ft of torque -- requires min. 91 octane gas) on my ZJ and it's not recommended that you tow with it. In fact, I ordered my ZJ without the tow package because I figured I'd never tow with it. I did notice a slight improvement in passing times but really doubt the claims Borla makes on HP. It does sound really nice though.

I've got a '96 Laredo V8 with Up Country + 2" Teraflex spacer lift, the Borla cat-back, Mopar ECU, 180 deg. t-stat, K&N Gen II FIPK, Rancho RS9000s, 31x10.50" Bridgestone Dueler ATs. It's tastefully done.
