Me, I am waiting for the new S to come out to compare to the current car. It sounds better....maybe....well different... perhaps more refined.

I think the price issue will pass soon...this is a weak economy with lots of competition: a turbo miata, the new Z, the works Mini, the performance model of the Neon, WRX, a new focus SVT turbo...i can go on...sure none of these are the Honda...but they are all less expensive and lots of fun...and there is a larger list, just add water.

I thank you for the update and it all sounds reasonable....fleshing out the rumors of a few months ago...i believe Honda will not mess up their good thing... pride and joy auto, only the car has to evolve and this is what is coming.

And it the redline is lower then it will spool up faster....Will this be a better car...i will bet not, just more refined...not slower or handle worse. Think Chinatown, Jack before he got his nose cut and after, same Jack. It will be a S2000 for sure.

I went through the exact same thing with the 2000 Miata vs. the 2001. Same car but not the same, lots of evolving done there.

Better car?...some say yes and some say no way. Me, I think it was worth the wait and I ended up paying probably the same and got a car with 2 more hp...VVT engine... chassis braces, strut tower brace, choice of colors, better seats, interior refinements, larger brakes and wheels, revised headlights, a 6 rather than 5 speed, choice of options, free rental cars with service, $500 debit card and free service due to the "missing hp"...lots of changes...a more evolved miata for sure.

I was set to plunk down my money for a 2003 and now I am waiting for the 2004....a walk around and test drive should be enough for me to know...I will bet there will some 2003's around for a while....for those who can wait, no regrets...for those who have to have this beauty now, enjoy. There are no bad choices here.

Man...talk about screwing up my plans on getting the MY03 Silverstone with red interior. Now i have to see the headlight and rear AND especially interior changes of the MY04 before i make a decision. And if the new yellow is exotically beautiful, then its MY04 all the way...gotta see it!!!!!! Post pics ASAP thanks!!!

Random note:

Damp = absorb the force or motion of

Dampen = make it wet

Thought I'd clarify.

This was touched upon earlier in this thread, but a longer 6th gear might be nice for current owners who are thinking of going with 4.44 or 4.77 rear gears. This combination would be great for adding acceleration in lower gears while still keeping the revs down in highway cruising in 6th. This is all assuming a 6th gear swap would be possible.

Maybe they got Chris Bangle to do the styling, and we'll end up with a Honda Z4... That'd be GREAT!

I, for one, see no real appeal in this "upgrade".

Nissan is cranking out A LOT more Zs -- so that really isn't a good comparison. I doubt the dealer will get the premiums as long on the S2200 as they did on the S2000, but I bet they will last much longer than what you saw in the Z.

I wonder if the new drivetrain components will mount up with the current ones. It would be nice to pick and choose the best of both (engine, tranny, diff, etc.).
