Nope. The S2K, as fine of a car as it is, will not be able to keep up with the new M3 in a straightline or on the track. Essentially, take everything that's good about the current M3 and add ~90 HP and a better suspension. The S2K and the current M3 are fairly comparable in performance. If you plan to challenge the new version, it will leave you considering a supercharger or wishing Honda would bust out with an all new S3000.

Yep it is going to leave us in the dust...but you wont see many on the road until summer. I have been told if I placed an order today I could get it in July.

Big time. Car performance pretty much comes down to hp/weight ratio. Do the math, dude. It's gonna be an awesome car, but don't forget the price difference.

In a straight line we will be blown away. But, on a track it should be fairly close.

I think the E46 M3 will stomp the S2000 in just about every way, except for (perhaps) structural rigidity.

I've read that the E46 is very stiff and nicely composed, but it's a heavy car with lots of goodies--not a tiny roadster--so handling-wise, depending on your preferences, the S2k might have it licked.

Again...... I'm not sure.

1. No convertible for at least another year, and still a four-seat sport sedan.

2. Great performance, handsome price, less than handsome looks, IMHO.

3. The hard-core AutoX guys are bemoaning the fact that the new M3 is clearly more of a step towards luxury than they would like... Less adjustability in the suspension, heavy, option laden, understeer prone, etc.

I'm envious of the horsepower, but that car is expensive.

It's gonna be sweet...Maybe a little soft but I'm sure it will put a smile on your face. The convertable if and when they release it will be a pretty hot ticket too. The S won't stand a chance. Then again I won't lose any sleep over it.
