A very different car than the S2000. And TORQUE everywhere above about 1000 RPM.

Hardly a fair comparison... $45k+ for coupe and $50k+ for cabrio.

coupe = 3415lbs
cabrio = est 3615lbs (youch).

Great looking, goes like stink, and probably handles great too.

I would think the M3 would crush a S2000 around a track unless it was an auto-x track. i would guess it can corner as well as the S2000, but still drive away on the straights and brake just as well.

Wish I could afford one.

Smoke? Stomp?

The figures magazines have posted put it extreemly close to the S2000 in 0-60 with an edge towards the M3. Handling, we'll see, not to many cars have pulled S2000 type lat G numbers on the track.

Of course we will!

... as long as we're being towed, I see no problem.

Umm. I think smoke and stomp are accurately descriptive. 0-60 for the s2k is around 5.5. Some here report a bit lower, but I think 5.5 is fair. Mid 14's in the 1/4, maybe 14.2 at ideal conditions. Again, there are outlyers like Sev.

The M3 jumps to 60 at 4.8, and the 1/4 at 13.5. That's a SIGNIFICANT difference. It will hang with a vette and an even match for a 911 Carrera. These are the numbers that 333hp and 262 ft lbs. get you.

As far as the skidpad goes, the s2k has gotten .90 to .92. The E36 M3 gets .87. I've seen .92 and .94 thrown around, but I don't know for sure.

Here's a bunch of review from the press though:

Four point eight, Five point five...who's gonna know the difference. I certainly hope I don't come across some idiot at an intersection trying to match magazine times in a Yugo let alone one of these rides!

After 10,000 miles I have yet to feel the need to "drag race" to 60 although I have pushed this car closer to its limits than I ever intended to. Anybody that was at the Asheville meet this spring can attest to that. Up there, the Beemer would lose.

One of Micheal Schumacher's F1 Ferraris would "smoke" the new M3, and its been out for over a year but I've only seen a few of them out on the streets, and they've all been red with the black interior.

I heard new rumors of the US market getting slightly de-tuned ones (after they promised not to).

Anyone.............?

So have you seen Micheal Schumacher's F1 out on the street??? Because you couldn't have seen the new M3, the SOP date hasn't even been set yet. And it would wax the S2K in Asheville too

The only 'power loss' between Euro and NA spec M3's this time is the diference in systems (i.e. DIN). 343 v.s. 333.

You guys will see alot more on the M3 when I take delivery of mine in oh, say, 7 months... if I'm luck

Much more M3 info at: http://www.thedoughouse.com/m3stuff.htm

(Note: the morons at C&D left the stability control on for their hot laps in Spain, hence the complaints about too much understeer).

RT, yes I have 'heard' that, but BMW NA has promised, and the press has reported, that the US spec will have the same engine.

I believe that this rumor was started by people who do not understand the difference between DIN and SAE horsepower ratings, thus making it seem that the US version has slightly less hp.
