Frankly, I don't give a damn. There will always be cars that are faster, especially if you pay a ton more money. A Ferrari is faster, too, and so is a Lamborghini, and on and on. So let's get over it and enjoy what we have.

To quote an old friend, "What me worry?"

Was it black? I'm wondering if that's the M Coupe I ran with at Motorsport Ranch once - he was definitely faster than I, but then he had a Dinan supercharger.

As far as new M3 vs S2000 - 10.2 vs 11.6 pounds/hp means it'll definitely be faster. But then, so is an LS1 Camaro. Like Rick, it doesn't bother me. What concerns me is the feel of the car - and at 3400+lbs, the M3 is a POS compared to an S2000.

One thing the Germans seem to be pretty good at is "feel" - steering (especially important), braking, engine response....

Steering feel doesn't seem to be a strong point of the S2K.

BTW my mid engine Lotus weighs 1350 pounds. With full manual 1.9 turns L to L steering you can actually grab a front wheel and twist it, watching the steering wheel turn inside the car. Wish it was running now!!!

If it helps I just traded in my '98 Red/Black convertible M3 for my Silver/Red 2000 S2K. M3 IS a great car but very pricy even to just get it serviced.
It's also much more of a sedan than I prefered and I can't tell you how much I LOVE the S2K!
M3 = fast, steady and pricy
S2K = fast, riding on rails and ready to rock!

Sev,

Are you sure for every .1 seconds at the 1/4 mile, a car will be ahead about a car length?

Thanks,

Uni, you got me curious, so.........ballpark we got a car covering 1/4 mile in 14 sec. which works out to about 65 mph average speed (seems reasonable). Now convert this backward to "ft/tenths of a second" ((65mph*5280ft)/(60min*60sec*10ths)) you get 9.5ft for every tenth of a second. Sounds good to me

That might not be what we see at the end of the course though. At the end of the 1/4 mile the car would be going approx 100mph. Doing the same math mumbo-jumbo we get 14.7 ft. So the rule of thumb sounds pretty close, I think.

By that criteria a Ford Festiva, Yugo, or Geo Metro should be on your 'must have' list.
