I keep wondering if I'm not reading my car's dip stick
correctly because it seems to burn no oil at all. I change the
oil every 3000 miles or so. At which hatch mark on the
dipstick do you consider the oil to be low?

Your initial post indicates that your car was purchased used with @20,000 miles on it, and that your problems began just a few days after purchase. Is that correct?

 

I keep mine filled up to the H as much as possible. Of course, any of the hatch marks in between is fine, as long as you don't drop below the L. I'm a believer that if I keep as much oil in the engine that I'll have consistently good oil pressure (assuming no blockage in the passages). But this is probably just my superstition. My burns very little, but I've noticed a correlation between how much time is spent at higher revs and how much oil it burns (again, being very little or none at all.)

This thread seems to be turning into banter on oil care and feeding, which is always a good thing. I've really noticed how a lot of s2000 owners are really interested in the fine details of their cars. I mean, asking which hatchmark is really pinning it down. I love that about this site.....
