MacGyver,

Just out of curiosity, is there any reason you couldn't wire in a second horn board to the base circuit board? If you could, the second board could point to the sides. I'm still intrigued by the idea of mounting the horns in ideal places, like the rear spoiler. I don't know a ton about electronics, but I like fooling around

I looks to me that the horns terminate with contacts to the circuit board -- the only thing I can see inside the horn is a foil connector -- no electonic devices are visible.

BTW, the stealth set-up proved its mettle on my trip back from the NYC Metro club meet at Bear Mountain this weekend. I was cruising way above the century mark on the southern part of the NJ Turnpike, got a warning, and drifted down to about 75 mph when I slipped by the cruiser on the side of the road. V1 to the rescue!

hey rick,
i am in the middle of the install that gomason had posted earlier
i really know very little our installer is doing it all he does good work but has been slow ( when he is done i'll post some photo's in my suzuka blue)
anyway i think u have an older V1 because when i saw the interior of ours the horns( front and back) are physically connected with metal which can be removed from the circuit board but not from each other.

but the point of my response is to let you know our installer actually spoke to the people at valentine and got a lot of good information about what could and couldn't be done with the electronics( I think they like seeing people use their product in innovative ways) so u may want to contact them for some info

keep up the good work

Rick,

Do you have any shots from the back of the car to see the clearance of the rear sensors?

Hey Rick, nice to meet you in person at the BBQ. You are a virtual cornicopia of knowledge!!As for the V1 install, sure seems like alot of work to install the second best detector on the market!! One day you might come to the "Dark Side" and purchase a K40!

uh you better check your info. in all the tests the valentine blows everyone else away

here is the car and driver test:
www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caranddriver/features/2002/february/200202_feature_detectors.xml

or the speedzones test:
http://www.speedzones.com/

they seem to agree the V1 takes the prize

Maybe you should check yours!! I see NO COMPARISON of the K40 2000 SERIES unit on your posting. As a matter of fact I have NEVER seen a comparison of the V1 with the K40 2000 series unit. The comparisons you see are for the K40 SELF CONTAINED UNIT not the custom K40 2000 series. I have owned a V1 for many years and used to also be a "V1 Freak" I too thought that nothing could compare to the V1 until I decided to spend the money and have the K40 installed. In all likelihood the V1 is a more sensitive detector however sensitivity is NOT what a good detector makes. It is the ability to sense a TRUE threat that makes a good detector in other words to limit falsing. The K40 has reduced falsing by almost two thirds.

I strongly dislike falsing too. I don't want my gadget crying wolf unless I need to do something. I set my V1 up with the custom tweaks best suiting my local conditions. Voila! Hardly any falsing and easy to do.

MacGyver,

Thanks for the advice. I think I might be biting off more than I can chew here

My major concern with stealth is the police seeing the unit - they are illegal in Virginia. I don't know if they can confiscate them permanently or just take them until you appear in court - I do know it carries a fine either way.

What are you opinions about mounting the unit to the rear glass instead of the windshield? The police would be looking at the windshield for a unit, not the rear between the seats.

I have ready *very* conflicting results on radar detector tests. Does the escort hold up to the V1?

Rick - would another detector like the Escort work in your configuration?
