Rick-

Do you plan to put this together in a kit or just provide instructions like this? I for one would be very interested in the kit. I am in Northern Virginia and would be happy to be a test subject if you intend to market this (I would of course pay for the kit).

We have no plans for a kit. The man who did the laser cutting of the door said that the plastic put off a noxious gas that caused several micro explosions as he was cutting it, so he refuses to do any more. His work is great, so this is a major disappointment (he's the guy who engraves the Team Voodoo shift knobs).

There's another challenge with this job, too. I'm fitting the window into the cutout in the lid right now, and the lid has a compound curvature in that area. So right now I'm thermo-forming the window by hand to conform to the curvature of the lid.

Nice car Rick. Just got my V1 the other day. I was curious as to how the V1 can detect radar/IR from the rear when it is mounted in this way? Am I missing something? Did you have the additional remote readout mounted somewhere less noticable or are you just listening for audible tones?

Sorry if these are dumb questions, I just got my V1 and haven't really used it yet.

BTW, nice to see a fellow Marylander.... I am in Westminster.

Detecting RADAR from the rear this way isn't a problem, but I believe the rear window (and the fact that Rick never cut out a piece in the back of the secret compartment) will prevent the detection of rear-facing LIDAR. I also believe Rick is using the add-on display and volume control (but he could also have just moved it from the box and used it that way).

If you take the time to read your V1 manual you will find there is virtually no such thing as a "False Alarm". You should know 99.9% of the time when actual radar is present but guess what? If you travel enough the 0.1% may someday surprise you. Will you get some annoying beeps? Yes, but someday it may be real and if you read your manual.... chances are you'll know when that occurs.

In summary:
Even the best detector is only as good as it's user. If you don't educate yourself on the characteristics of radar and your unit..... don't waste your money.

The mount suggested (pictured) in this thread will greatly diminish it's intended capabilities. This subject has been discussed and worn-out on countless other threads.

1.) unit mounted TOO LOW
2.) unit obstructed

The only sensible mount for this unit (on a S2K) and most any detector is posted by "E30M3" on his Beamer. Don't start chopping up your interior for something that will render your prize detector to inferior status. SEARCH PREVIOUS THREADS...

I've always wondered why people care so much about 'false alarms'. A radar signal is a radar signal. A store door opener emits the same frequency signal as a radar gun. If there's only one door opener, there's simply no way to tell the difference. Most 'Filters' simply ignore signals that are too weak. As soon as you add a filter, though, you will probably miss some real alerts. Not good.

The smarter ones (V1, and possibly others) will not alert you if there are multiple close-together signals of the same strength, unless the signal gets strong enough. That's why I like the V1's Logic Mode - give me a report on all signals, just at a reduced volume, until the threat becomes strong enough, then go to full volume.
