Any more information about how this works for rear detection since last posts?

After several months of operation, I can say that the detection appears to be nearly as good as it was with my previous mount in front of the aeroscreen. But that's for radar only. As for laser, this installation is nada -- no good. The reason I know is that I was on I-95 in Virginia in the far right lane and saw a cop ahead with a laser gun mounted on a tripod just on the shoulder. I went right at him and right by him, and I could see the laser signal pulsing from his hardware, but not a peep came out of my V1.

My stealth mount is now no more - I pulled it out to prepare for the install of the StreetPilot III LCD screen in the overhead windshield trim. The V1 will go up there over the passenger side with a custom molded slot that will make it completely integrated.

Rick,
Are you going to sell the passenger side mount for the V1? Got any pictures? I really need some good way to mount my V1. I thought I heard something about A visor mount also?

Thanks,
Tim

Very familiar with RADAR theory...Plastic will not interfere with the radar waves. They pass right through, especially with thin ABS. Not familiar with your detector to tell if it is rear sensing, but the placement from the pictures looks like you will not receive rear detection if it has that capability because it's line of sight (LOS) below the metal structure of the roof when it is down. It even looks to be below the trunk lid which completely blinds that LOS. You will however continue to receive reflections from signs and other vehicles through the front. Side detection (if able) is also degraded since it is between the roll bars and seats. But you will still recevive those reflections. BTW the reflections are what you want since if it goes off after you're painted, he's gatcha. Basically, anything metalic interferes (including chrome window tinting), ABS (car plastic) will not. Forgive the crude drawing, but this is the coverage you're basically looking at.

Rick...still looks awesome

The rear and side coverage worked pretty much as they did when I had the V1 mounted on the windshield and just in front of the windscreen. But that's impressionistic, not scientific

Timber,

The custom winshield roof rail trim we're having made for the Street Pilot LVD screen install will have a mount for the V1 on the passenger side.

Also, our leather visor covers, which will be going into production next week, will have an optional pouch to hold the V1.

Is there a point to getting the window laser cut if we think that the lexan window will not really block any less of the radar signal than the original plastic?

No, and if I were to do it again, I would not have had the window cut -- it was a lot of extra work and in the end made no difference whatsoever.

Can any one else answer the question?
Someone PM PJK3 he is actually an engineer and extremely technical in electronics in relation to stereo/audio. I truly think he may either know offhand or have or be able to direct you to a resource for you to research.
Also, since Modifry is into DCI's and IR remotes isn't there similarities between the two. Get him in on this thread (or is he in already?) These are the two guys off the top of my head that could possibly answer your questions.

I would assume that if your remote works from this location or through the same type of plastic that the hole is not needed which would be a plus, as even the slight indent were the cut is made draws attention. Possibly having an officer decide to be a prick and search your vehicle.
There is also an add on to escort called......SRZ or something like that. It is an add on that can be used in sync with the 8500 (Can it be used with the wireless solo) or by itself. It is pricey (I saw one for 399$ but in a road and track type article in a "Business Magazine" yes a business magazine. Stated that the only unit tested that seemed to work at deflecting lazer was the Escort unit. Anyone have any info on this.
