Hi All:

The 04 is just a little more notchy than the 03 when they are cold but the 04 gets much better after it warms up, usually about 4 or 5 shifts.

The brass ring looks like carbon was sprayed on the inside of the ring but I am sure that there is more to it. (Not quite diamond material)

I can email a photo to someone if they could post it.

A quote from Temple of Vtec . . .

"A good example of this is the new carbon fiber synchromesh for all gears except reverse. The new synchronizer design features a brass ring with a carbon fiber element bonded on the inner surface, resulting in simplified mechanical components, increased synchronizer capacity, improved abrasion resistance, and reduced weight. The weight reduction and increased capacity of the synchronizers directly results in a "smoother and quicker shifting feel". "

Just got my S2000 a few days ago and just joined the club. Love the car but my 04 has exactly the symptom mentioned here. The "grinding" felt and heard is not subtle. Now I see this may be "normal". Has anyone called a dealer about it? Does anyone know for sure this is not causing any damage?

Having had my MY04 a little over a week, I had mentioned the 1/2 grinding I had noticed on my car also. It seems to have gone away with a lighter touch on the stick. I now shift from first to second with my two fingers slightly to the right on the stick and pull back easily with ever a slight force to the left. A little notchy but no feeling of grinding whatsoever. I did make the mistake once of not fulling pulling the stick back so the gear did not engage...don't like that sound..will attempt not to do that again!

My Prelude does the same thing when shifting to 5th gear. After it's warmed up it doesn't grind anymore. The 1-2 grind on the S2K bothers me much less. It isn't very noticeable unless you are manhandling the shifts as dave1216 mentioned. I don't think double clutching is necessary, unlike my lude.
