I purchased a 2004 S2000 with 50,200 miles on the odometer. The dealer strongly ( of course) suggested I purchase the 48 mo 48,000 warranty that will take me close to 100,000 miles. I was wondering if there are any inherenet problems with the 2004 model and if is there anything in particular I should be on the look-out for. I plan to drive to and from work (2.7 mi one way) This car will be my primary mode of transaportation. In your experience do you think the warranty is a good idea?

My HondaCare warranty cost AHM more than it cost me, but make sure that is what you are getting. They are all just insurance policies but some are better than others.

I paid a little over $800 for a 7/75 warranty that paid fully for one diff and for the parts for another. Also paid for a window regulator, and a wheel bearing.

The S2000 is not the most bullet proof vehicle around (in fact mine has been a bit of a lemmon) so the warranty which I would not normally buy paid off in my case.

Depends on how it was taken care of. I have seen lots of S over a 100k with no major problems

I bought one. Could it easily be a waste of money? Sure. But I'd rather find out later that I wasted my money, than banging my head into my desk wishing I had spent it.

I look at it the same way. Better to have it and not use it than not have it when you need it. I took out a 5 year on the 05 with 24k I just bought.

Thank you all for your candid input. Although the vehicle looks to be in near perfect condition, I do not know the prior owner's diving habits. There is not a mark anywhere on the vehicle and under the hood looks nearly new as well. I am leaning towards purchasing the coverage. I agree with justdrew424, I would rather have it and not need it, then need it and not have it.

i definitely would. as soon as you get your second gear crunching, and your diff whining or your wheel bearings making noise, have them take car of it

If you can get it cheap sure get it. I got a 7/100K miles for $685 when I purchased my car a year ago in April. The finance guy started at $1100 when I was doing paper work with him. Since I was not taking the car the same day I told him that I would think about it. When he called to let me know that the car was ready to be pick up his offer was down to $899. I refused the offer again, by the time I got to the dealer he had another offer of $685, which supposingly was at cost and I purchased that offer because the online Honda Ext Warranty were in the $750-975 range.

depends on how you are going to use the vehicle. If you intend to be hard on the vehicle within the time of the warranty period/mileage, then it would be a good idea. If you are going to cruise it for 100K miles or not put that many miles on it in the warranty period, then you are wasting your money.
