By exact same', I mean they aftermarket warranties sold through the credit union. You go to the dealer, show them the warranty, they fix your car. You pay the deductable and the warranty fairies pay the rest. That's how it was sold to me. You get a number that you call, if you need towing, etc. It also is like triple A. So for the same coverage, I paid 600 dollars less.
Now, here's the caveat. Yes in some regards we paid a high premium for piece of mind. And only that. If you read the fine print, they kinda state you have to keep the car maintained, yady yady. This would imply I'd have to get my oil changes through some retarded dealer, or go through my maintenance routines through stealerships who 'may or may not' do a better job than I can do myself. So will I get my ass handed to me if there's mechanical failure and they argue I did my own oil changes? Not a dealership? Hence they don't have to pay up? I don't know. I think at that point I'd bring in a lawyer. Regular maintenance is a no brainer. So I'm keeping my receipts and writing down when I do my own maintenance, in case it ever comes to that.

I've never heard of anyone needing those specific repairs. That's bizarre.

I'm not saying that this is true for any specific warranty carriers, but I've heard some real horror stories about having paid for the coverage and then not getting what was expected.
Even $1100 is a lot of money to spend for a promise of coverage. I have purchased several cars from my local Honda dealership and would probably spend the extra money because they have always treated me well.
But if someone has had some good experiences with specific aftermarket warranty companies, I would be happy to hear about them.
