I did the same thing, my 04 was cpo and i purchased the extended warranty.

So far, i haven't had to use it, but the peace of mind of knowing its there is nice.

Same here...05 with cpo and I went and got the extended warranty. Have had to use it to for a broken top latch and a few other miscellaneous items. The non-powertrain warranty is only good for a about 12k miles, but the powertrain on mine goes to 100k. And since I have gotten nothing but Hondas as my ride, the dealership here gave me employee pricing on the warranty.

I always take the gamble and turn down the extended warranty. Between my wife and myself, we have owned more than 10 cars. If we paid $800 each for a warranty, that would have been $8000. I have never had a repair more than $100 that would have been covered by a warranty. My biggest single repair so far was $800 on an item that would be considered a wear part and not covered. I say put the money into a CD and save it. It will be available to you if you need to make a repair.

This is how I view such things.

me too.....

these warranties are huge profit makers for the dealer as well as the insurance company behind it---the odds are very high you will never have a covered claim anywhere near the cost of the policy

it does give you piece of mind but you pay a lot to get it---not worth it to me but maybe it is to you---at least try to negotiate the price down as low as you can--as dfvs2k showed in the earlier post---the dealer dropped the price by over $400 to get him to buy it and I'll guarantee they didn't lose money on the deal.

I've bought several Hondas new (after many domestic and other European cars) and have seen that their repair costs were astoundingly less. But, that said, I've purchased a few extended warranties.

My thought was (when buying a new Honda), "If Honda can keep the car at top shape for 7 years and 100k miles for bumper to bumper and zero deductible, I'm willing to spend $800. Heck, that's less than a single service call on one of my old Detroit irons."

But I'm now faced with the possibility of spending $1-2k to extend the warranty of my MY07 (still 5 months left on original warranty); it's currently in the shop for warranty service (replace VSA - $2400; replace Steering Angle Sensor - $???), neither of which has anything to do with the driving of the car which is currently at 6800 miles.

I wasn't thinking about extended warranty on this car (Hey, It's a Honda) until this last spate of repairs.

Observations? Suggestions? Price comparisons? Experiences?

I'm not really considering an aftermarket warranty because I don't trust them, but I don't yet know what Honda will offer. If it's around $1k, I'll probably go for it. If it's more like $2k, I will have a harder decision.

I've never heard of anyone needing those specific repairs. That's bizarre.

since it's my first used car I figured I'd err on the side of caution and got mine. I think they wanted 1700 for it. 04 with 41k miles on the odometer. When I went to my bank to get the check to send to them, they sold me the 'exact' same warranty. Only...since it was a credit union. I got the same deal for 1100. They said there's a law in CA, I can actually revoke and return that other lame warranty, so we wrote the dealer the check. With a difference of 1700. and sent them a copy of the statute. Done. Saved 600 bucks! for my piece of mind.

When you say "exact same warranty", what does that mean? Is it a Honda warranty, an aftermarket warranty, or one of the "credit union" warranties that I've read about?

The ones I was looking at are Honda warranties purchased through the dealer.

And how did you conclude that the other warranty was "lame"? Just because of the cost or is there something else that you found out? All warranties are not created equal. I don't know whether I'd trust my S2k to just any aftermarket warranty without really looking at the terms and conditions - and maybe not even then unless I got some positive evidence that they were credible.
