I would take the S and keep it under 5500 RPM's. This will get you to the 600 mile break in period faster.

"Varying the speed," in practice, translates to not using the cruise control, that's all. Even if you stay in 6th, you'll naturally wind up with enough variation due to the terrain and so on.

Take your old Corolla if you want to, but, gee, I sure wouldn't. HPH

About avoiding constant RPM. Get off the interstate onto some interesting sideroads a few tmes. These are the roads the S was made for anyway, and you will enjoy the drive more.

with Xviper, don't over analyse this break-in bit, jsut do what the owner's manual syas and have fun.

okay I'm back from my 300 mile trip ... wooo!! what a car... I made sure I varied the RPMs... got off the highway a few times... oh and I went through mountains so plenty of twisties and sweepers ... man.. I didn't even hit 6000 RPM and had so much fun... can't wait to hear the VTEC scream... I love the s2000 ... damn.. this car is worthy of my Suzuki GSXR 1000 ...

I now have 300+ miles on my car in 2 days... ... just a few more days and I'll be 600+ miles

one question though - I should get my oil / filter changed at 600 right? and not full synth only semi synth ?

any recommendations on the right oil to use?

WRONG! I strongly suggest that you READ YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL before you do something really silly and hurt something on your car.
Check the oil often and if necessary, top up with a non-synthetic name brand oil 10W30.

P. 108 of your owner's manual...

* Do not change the oil until the scheduled maintenance time.
...
Follow Honda engineer recommendations in owner manual. They design the engine of your S, they know how to maintain it.

NO WAY -- Go read the "Oil Journals" in the Under the Hood Forum**. Leave the factory fill in until you are ready for the first change as indicated by the maintenance minder. And then use a mineral-based oil -- let the synthethic wait til later. Again, read what the experts have to say.

Edit: But don't let it all go to your head, after all this is a Honda, and one designed for more hard use than the other models -- enjoy it.

**BTW - threads like the Oil Journals are what makes this site great and makes membership a bargain.

Vivek,

I recommend a long read through the "oil journals" thread in the under-the-hood forum.

Best wishes. Glad you enjoyed your ride.
