New S2000 worth it?
Hi all,
I've been wondering if buying a new s2000 is worth it. In the sense that, you're paying for a 7 year old design.
Similiarly, I've thought about a Z4 M but again, it has the old m3 engine from 2000 in there.
Would an 04-05 CPO be the best deal here?
Thanks

The S2000 is an old design, but it works and works very well. I think Honda or any other company would find it hard to improve on its current platform. The only item I would like to see updated is the engine, it just needs another 60HP and 50TQ.
I bought my S2000 last year, it is worth every penny.

I had to decide between black w/red interior z4 (3.0) or s2000.
z4 -
pro:smoother power delievery, good torque and power range, more room, it's not a honda, great warranty program from BMW, and it's good looking (subjective of course)
con: convertible top takes 20 seconds or so to open and close making you look like an idiot or if you're impatient like me, you'll go nutz. Parts cost arm and a leg after the warranty, the looks can be hideous (subjective) at certain angles, flimsy interior for BMW money, not as fun driving feel as s2000, and too much electronics that could go wrong.
s2000-
Pro: Insanely loud engine, feels faster driving than actually is, brutally stiff suspension and chasis design, lighter, a lot of aftermarket support that's not going to cost arm and a leg, inexpensive parts, quality interior at any standards (except for anything over $50,000), amazing gear box, exterior reservoir shocks at the rear stock!, it could looks very good at any angle (subjective or not), MID-ENGINE LAYOUT (engine is behind the front strut towers), the other RWD sports car in Honda family is the NSX, NSX technology at Civic money (like the electronic steering), top goes down in 6 seconds or so, and it's fun little car that eats less gas than z4 if driven sanely (you wont)
con: no room if you're older than 12 years old, it's still a honda (but mystery develops when you take the emblems out), rear spring is too stiff (for trackers), it looks like a 4x4 stock (unlike the z4), cheap paint chips easily, my girlfriend can't get out of the passenger seat (she's 5'8" 110 pounds, tri-athlete who's got a washboard stomach), there is no glove box, and you'll get a cramp trying to access the secret compartment, vtech takes forever to get there and you'll cruise at something like 4000rpm on highway speed, and everything is so loud inside.
that's what I have.
Between z4 and s2000, I got the s2000. Not only the insurance cheaper, but with the money you save on z4 M, you could throw a turbo on the s2000 and take z4 M to school.

many have asked which car to buy, you know that you will choose , not us...we have our S2000's.
I gotta say that if you look at an older Top Gear, where they compare the S2000, Z4, and base boxster, unscientifically of course...you will find they all finish about dead even, except you have a wad of cash in your pocket, more hp, and honda reliability when you go S2000.
I have no regrets going on 4 years now...no repairs other than fluids adn filters and a set of tires, never to the dealer for warranty work, oil changes you do yourself for less than 15.00. miles of smiles. unique car in so many ways.
do not let what you have read anyplace be your guide, go drive one and see for yourself, it is not a car for every roadster fan, the car has an edge adn you can kill yourself easily if it.

If you have any questions - all I have to say is test drive it. I had looked at others like the 350z, but when I sat in the S2000, not only did it feel right, the handling was so crisp. The clincher - the on-ramp to the expressway and flooring it, and then feeling and hearing the VTEC kick in... Ear to ear grin. Everyday.
With the factory incentives offered in recent months, this car is a steal at/under $30k. Even at more typical pricing, it's still a good value relative to the other sports cars in this class (the $40/50k Germans). But ultimately, as a couple people above suggest, test drive it and the competition and decide for yourself.
