New S2000 worth it?

there's no written rules on what a sports car is supposed to have or what it's supposed to look like. personally i think a sports car should have some get up and go over the mundane sedans out there however...the s2000 is a niche car...some love the power - most do not particularly in the lower rev range.
but this is honda at its finest - and i don't deny the car is great...just not my cup of tea when it comes to a sports car.
my S felt slower than my wife's '02 civic si before around 4k or so...i think that's embarrassing.
i don't agree with your statement about real sports cars having an 8 or 9k redline. there are plenty of porshes out there that max out at 7k.

And yeah, a sportscar should make a difference in the low rev range too, but with the very powerfull diesel cars around lately I think many 'sports' cars would have their hands full on let's say a VW Golf TDI 170HP or a BMW 330d. It's no shame not to win or not to make the difference from a powerfull diesel anymore... In that case, a real sportscar would start only with the 911/430/Gallardo etc...
And of course I would love some more power too in the low rev range, but that's nearly impossible with only 2 litres of displacement. But that's the whole spirit of the Honda engine and that's why I love it! And yeah, you'll love it or you'll hate it, there is not much room in between. And that's ok.
With the 8k or 9k I just meant that you can't deny the S2000 not being a sportscar, if you feel the power of that little engine between 6 and 9k grand, you have to admit it is some marvel too and it compensates for the little lack of it down low imo. Not much affordable sportscars can go that high with that kick (not talking Ferrari territory)
