1. The traction control really feels like it is kicking in early. Could it be a sensor issue? Something they touched when changing the rear tire?
2. Would mixing front/rear tires throw it that far out of whack?
3. Any other thoughts?

Thanks!
1. it's a tire/grip issue. I'm sure your sensors are fine.

2. Not a good idea to mix tires, this could be part of the issue.

3. Next time around spend the extra cabbage and get four very good tires for this car. The S2K is extremely tire sensitive. The Sumitumo HRZ IIIs are very good tires for the money, the RE01Rs are fantastic.

Congratulations! Like a large percentage of S2000 owners, you skimped/didn't do your research when you bought the tires!

PRO TIP:

The tires contact the road.

(They're important)

I happened to my 06 also when I got the Sumi. HZRT III. My VSA was very sensitive for the first week or so but once my tire has a few miles on it and it grip alittle better the VSA doens't kick on like before.
I would say give your new tire a few more miles and you should be fine.

Sounds like your new tires still have releasing agent on them. You may notice an improvement over the next 100 miles as that compound burns off.

I have these and they do have much less grip than the stocks...

But they last forever!
