Default Newbie looking for info

I just upgraded from my modified 06 Miats to a sharp AP1. Love it. It's stock so I'll slowly make some basic upgrades (intake, coilovers, etc. etc.) But one thing I'd like to do is get some seat locks. In the past I've had a license plate stolen and changed the bolts there to torx head ones which are a deterrent as most common thieves probably don't carry the torx tools. I see seat lock threads but no recent info. Anyone have a suggestion? Thank you!

Oops - make that "06 Miata". I can't figure out if there's a way to edit (correct) my post.

We had a guy some time ago who had McGuard seat locks specifically made for this car. You had to prove you were an S owner before he sent the key and locking bolts.

I think I recall seeing DIY hard to remove locks for the seats.

Thanks for the replies. I went with the same solution I used for the license plate which is Torx head bolts. I'm betting most common thieves don't carry Torx drivers.

I have not heard from him for over 5 years. I strongly suspect his role as a supplier for these locks has permanently ended.

A trick is to put silicone or glue into hex heads or torx heads to further deter thieves. It's all it is really, is deterrence. If they really want it, they'll just take the car and work on it at their leisure.

As a side thought, are people STILL after s2000 seats? I'd just as soon replace them honestly.

I dont think the seat theft thing is as big as before. Mine does have the locks mentioned in a few posts above. I misplaced the key to them once and had to remove a seat ... just used some channel locks and got them loose. Was a bit of fidgeting in the tight space but did manage to do it. As a note, I have also had to remove a set of McGaurd wheel locks on a car that the key had been lost on. Hammer a 16pt socket on, take them off. Took me about 10 min to have all 4 wheels off. So they will slow someone down and make them make more noise, but are only so effective really. Better than the spline drives I suppose. I have seen a number of peoples wheels stolen that had those. they are even easier to get a socket on and remove. But under the seats, the McGaurds are probably pretty ok for slowing someone down enough to give up. Maybe not so much years ago when people were paying $2000 or more for used S2k seats and new ones were way more.

As another theft sort of thing, I do not keep anything of value in mine and many times leave it unlocked. I would rather someone steal my $175 head unit than cut my t>$400 top looking for other stuff to steal! So if they get into mine due to the doors being unlocked, they did not need to cut my top and there really is not anything I care about in there. My seats are pretty worn too so doubt they would target those lol. My car has a cheap aftermarket stereo, nothing but papers in the console and nothing of value in the trunk 90% of the time.

I removed my seat locks a few weeks ago. At this point I figured it was more likely I would lose the key than have someone try and steal my seats.

Perhaps in my mind what is more important, is to let potential perps know the seat locks are installed so they don't bother to rip my top up only to find they cannot get my seats. If I did not have the locks, I would have these decals. Notice the neat color matches the Rio Yellow. BTW the windows do have a tint on them as well.
