Default a newbie question worth answering

I know this may sound funny but excuse me for being such a newb. I however have been reading up and studying a lot on s2k and have completely fallen in love with it. I've fallen for it about three weeks ago and have ever since just been on s2ki for hours on daily basis reading, reading, and reading! One thing that I don't know is will converting from a soft top into a hardtop still make it a convertible? as in still be able to drop the top down...

The reason I'm asking is because I'm not a fan of soft tops and will only purchase an S if converted into a hardtop (making it into a coupe). & I will 100% purchase one if a hardtop is able to be dropped down, if not, is the conversion from soft to hard & vice-versa difficult? Try not to be so ignorant with your comments. Thanks in advance.

P.S - I'm very happy that s2ooo caught my eyes before purchasing my dream car, Evo IX MR. I would love to have both cars in the future but I will be purchasing the s2k first.

Yes. It will not be a TRUE coupe, in a sense that it is removable...but trust me, buy a soft topped s2K, run in for a few weeks and I promise you will LOVE the convertibleness. I hated 'verts until I got this car too..

That would be amazing technology of the future, but nah. It's just a removable hardtop

Mugen Replica

It's just like putting a hat on your car, you can take it off when you want

You aren't "converting" the car with the hardtop. The hardtop mounts with the softtop down. You can fit or remove the hardtop as desired once the hardware is in place for it. The hardtop does not drop. You'll need either a hoist or a second person to fit/remove the hardtop due to its bulk.

Um, ever heard of the pot calling the kettle black? Please drop the attitude.

OEM hardtop is only (approx) 40lbs. Easy for one person to lift, but awkward...have someone that can help nearby. It goes on and off in a matter of 2 minutes with someone helping.

It won't "drop down"...the hat analogy from BlackBearTX was great!

Soft top stays in the car but retracted when the hardtop is on...

The hardtop does not offer any increased structural integrity, it only adds 40lbs of weight and good looks. You can counter the weight addition by permanently removing the soft top though...although I wouldn't recommend that...you may want or need the soft top in the future.

Good Luck.

Whoever said it's like putting a hat on your car is totally correct. If you have a garage, you can build a pulley system so you can lift the top off in 2 minutes.

this sounds like the best option for me. what's the difficulty on building a pulley system?
