I did the hoist up in an afternoon, a real simple DIY.

If you want a hardtop full time, some of the members have made permanent hardtops by bolting the top to the car directly instead of using hardware. I'd use hardware for a year first.

There are a few ways you can put the top on and take it off with no help that I've seen posted now and then. The lighter tops will be easier to lift, so if you want to put it on / take it off a lot, keep it in mind when comparing options. Fiberglass is pretty cost-effective in terms of getting a good ratio of cost vs weight.

GL! I'd like a mugen or mugen replica really well, but there's about $8k worth of other stuff I want first, and it's coming really slowly right now...

thank you very much xoz

& ace123, i'll still want to have the option of taking the ht off.

& yes i'm thinking about CF, and i heard that the mugen replica fitting is a little off to where the OEM is the best way to go... mmm, any input?

8K is about just right, after the HT it's going to be an intake, then exhaust, then SC... idk if i wanna mess with headers kos they get very loud.

A hoist is just something you hook around the hardtop to lift it off, I could imagine having a garage would make it very easy to make a hoist on the roof of the garage.

Here is a site alot of peeps buy the hardtop at.

Oh yeah and you can buy hoists.

Not my car just some pics I found. I got a brand new VIS hardtop on it's way though and will hopefully get it monday, thanksgiving break came in perfect time too cause I read it's a six hour install.
Hopefully my car will look that good!

Here are a bunch of photos for you. I had an '01 Silverstone and then bought an '05 Suzuka blue. My (then) husband kept the '01 Silverstone, so we had both cars to take on drives.

^Topless. Soft top is folded down.

^Putting hardtop on by four hands, while soft top is folded down.

^Hardtops hanging with pulleys in garage.

^Lowering hardtop onto car. See the soft top folded?

^Hardtops on.

Mugen Style fits on hoist as well. My use is more as a stand rather that a hoist above the car.

This might help you also understand a bit more about the hardware installed and all . This is the link to the mugen hardtop install
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=724807
I'm not a fan of OEM, a Mugen replica can be bought cheaper brand new than a used OEM hardtop. IMO an OEM looks like a fishbowl cause of the back glass .
A local vendor wanted me to try a VIS hardtop because he heard it had pretty good fitment, $1600 +tax , I hate tax lol, for a brand new VIS and hardware with a lexan window.
Lexan is a plastic that is used as an alternative to plexiglass, some reading if interested
http://www.sabic-ip.com/gep/Plastics/en/Pr...Line/lexan.html

Something to pay attention to is if a hardtop comes with the hardware to install it. The hardware often includes the window too and can be semi expensive, you should watch your local craigslist as well for hardtops on sale locally, used is always cheaper than new. My hardtop is coming unpainted though, and I will get it painted for about $75 (On average normal paint places will charge 275ish for it)
