I remember you from way back also... I think I joined the old board a few months before I picked up my first S2000 in September 99. The odd thing is that I have not seen very many old school guys around any more. I think S2000 owners are in general very short lived owners and move on to something more practical.

Not to break the warm an fuzzy feeling going on but over the past few years here while certain groups (usually local) and people (like yourself) have made a lot of friends, I find that the S2000 owners have been VERY cold. Unlike the del Sol people who after a few years, I knew a good 250 people by name. I think I have only really spoken with a pack of 5 S2000 guys in 2 years. there is something going on with S2000 owners that I cant figure out, most people don

Y2KS2K- I am sorry that you have had this experience for mine is almost totally opposite.

Since getting my S2000 in October of 1999, I never expected to have made so many new friends and felt such a sense of comradarie among owners and enthusiasts on and off the board. I know many of the local owners (yes, by "real" name) and we often hang out just for the sake of doing so, not just car-based activities...uh...then again its usually food or alcohol based...but still )

Anyways, maybe its just that we have so many owners in the Bay Area, but I have had a great time so far and don't plan to be a "shortlived" owner.

Maybe its just an expectations thing...I did not expect such an experience, you were hoping for more. Either way, i hope you continue to enjoy the ownership experience despite your disappointment in this area. Maybe after S2K Days 2002 finally happens in Monterey, we will all feel better.

Mingster- Bravo on the post, I agree wholeheartedly. I may not have contributed too much, but I must say I have learned lots from everyone.

* Peace.

Awwww, Mingster....all warm and squishy

I agree, though. I would never have thought that walking into a Honda showroom in December of 99 would have led to the creation of the Chicago 7! I would also have never imagined that I would have had so many cool experiences and met so many crazy people from the purchase of a car. I have made a TON of friends over the course of time that followed my decision to get the S2000.

y2ks2k, first, thanks for the kudos, I appreciate it. I can't really explain the difference between what you experienced with the del Sol folks and the S2000 folks. Perhaps it has something to do with production numbers? But you seem to be saying that the quality of people, or at least their temperment, is different. I think you WILL find that after the initial rush, some S2000 owners will and have sold their cars when either they a.) don't appreciate it any longer b.) find that it's impracticality just doesn't suit them (and yes, this car is almost totally impractical, that's what makes it so much fun) c.) they are the type of people who only hold on to their cars for a short period. But what I expect to find is that now that most owners and enthusiasts know what the S2000 is all about, the cars will fall into the hands of the people who understand it. And I think some people didn't (or even still don't) understand the car.

I think it's like anything else, people are people and people have disagreements and get into squabbles, I know I'm guilty of that...I try to resist it, but it still happens. Personally, I can't count the number of local friends that I have made through building the club and hanging out at the track(s) in the region. A bunch of whackjobs, like myself...

I don't think you're painting a doom and gloom picture here, just a little confused as to why the del Sol experience was so different. I can't explain that difference. Wish I could. But I do know that it can be difficult to get folks to the various track dates that I have helped organize or be a part of. I think part of that is fear. People, and rightfully so, fear that their car is going to be damaged. And that's fine, I understand that. But for me personally, that's EXACTLY why I GOT this car. So I'm all over track time. However, it's been somewhat frustrating trying to get a large S2000 turnout from track events. Now, drinking events, THAT is a different story...always a good turnout for those!

I also have the S2000 to thank for having encountered Edith at the Player's Club. We see this absolutely mindbogglingly beautiful woman at VOTA Racing/Chicago 7 meetings. Man, oh man.

Nice post, Richard.

Being an "oldie" I remember first e-mailing Mingster about the S2K meets and events. He told me to check out the H-A board. I also remember e-mailing Greg Stevens after what happened to Scarlet I and seeing it being ressurected.

The memories are great. I have to disagree with y2ks2k a little here though. There are plenty of oldies still around. I bought this car in Sept. 99 and still have a blast drving it, every time I get behind the wheel.

I've been involved with the S2000 community since October of '99. I was the 32nd (I think) person to sign onto Shelly's board and the 6th to sign onto this one and I've enjoyed watching the enthusiasm for this board grow and grow. I recall the chaos that was Honda-Acura.net, and the silliness caused by S2000Chris and 9000revs.

Since Greg started S2KCA, our local region has 17 members and is getting stronger every day. I've made new friends that I hope extend beyond our choice of cars. Generally, I've found most of our owners happy to be a part of an exclusive community and only a few seem genuinely peeved that someone had the "audacity to buy the same car as them."

I guess we confirmed our appreciation for this car when we replaced My wife's Integra GS-R with a Spa Yellow 2001 making us a two S2K family.

Thanks to everybody and let's get ready for a new group of newbies as Honda readys the 2002s. (where is the secret compartment, fuel opener, dipstick etc.)

What a post ... Makes everyone feels hmm, kinda at home after this. I suppose oh well. Rich, you sure made it sound like someone deserves a Nobel S2K award. Hmm, maybe there should be one ... Then CThree gets to go on stage and speak a few words, we'll hold it in the next hackers forum in Las Vegas or something ... Figured it would gain more exposure to us all.

Getting a few S2000 owners together here in Michigan has been difficult as well. However, I think a good deal of the difficulty is due to schedule conflicts. Some folks can easily attend an offer such as, Lets get together Saturday. But, for many, if not most, it's not so easy. Heck, I actually have some car related stuff pre-scheduled to 2005! My main point is - more advanced notice on get together's would be helpful. I'm not sure if that was an issue with the PIR events or not, but it sure helps attendance at any event.

Bravo! I'm a newbie here... I just want to say that this board has made my buying decision more informative and the ownership of my S more enjoyable! Thanks!
