Default Nice save!

With how often we hear about the unfortunate wrecked S2000s due to driver error, I just wanted to ask the question about the errors we don't have to admit--the ones we are able to fix. I know I've made noob errors since owning the car, but I've been fortunate and either resolved them through a combination of skill and driver aids or perhaps just been a little lucky. I can think of (at least) 2 times when I've mildly endangered my S through stupidity or an honest mistake. How about you?

What I'm asking about are the kinds of things noobs get haranged for--things like:
-Driving on bad tires and losing control, but then recovering.
-Inexperience-type errors like adding or removing throttle inappropriately, but then figuring it out before doing any damage.
-Overdriving on the street and nearly having to pay for it.
-Or maybe just general purpose dumb errors like drinking a coke / talking on the phone / lipstick / etc, then panic stopping to avoid rear ending someone.

I've avoided other people hitting me with some driver skill, but really haven't come close to losing the car on the street. I drive like a sane person on the street though (for the most part...or at least like a sane autoxer).

i have NO driver skill at high speeds and i admit it, just read my signature below.

At the speed limit i'm a different animal. I can anticipate what every noob is going to do in front of me and adjust accordingly to avoid any intanglements. I can tell if some asshole is going to merge into my lane without them signaling, i can read a cars body language the way some folks can read human body language. If i see someone weaving through traffic behind me, i'll slow down to spread distance between the driver on the lane to my right or my left, as to give the weaver a longer distance to him to have to cut in front of me. If i'm in the right lane in the highway and we're approaching an entry ramp, i'll spread the distance between myself and the driver in front to allow ample space for someone to enter at highway speeds without interrupting traffic. I will position myself at a narrow intersection in the middle in a road when making a left in a way that i do not interrupt the flow of traffic passing behind me, i leave enough space that trucks have space to pass me at the intersection. This is with my land rover.

I hate the honda, it turns me into Mr. Wheeler.

I've owned the car two months, and I've had 2 incidents like this (both in the first two weeks). Mostly out of the inexperience of both RWD, as well as the characteristics of the car.

- First was an underestimation of the power (not saying we have a ton of it, but I was used to a 1.8s sentra) we produce. I got over zealous on a wet road, and my backside went nuts. Luckily, I do know how to correct both oversteer and understeer so I was able to catch it before it got ugly.

- Second time was not recognizing the importance of consistant/smooth throttling in a turn. I was too used to FWD lift throttling. I took an aggressive on ramp turn which would have been fine if I didn't unthrottle. Luckily once again I knew how to correct it. This one was a little tougher though because I had just transitioned from nice paved road to crappy turn up road.

No harm, no foul. Just good learning without the consequences

i had a 2001 ap1 a while ago. i was pretty used to rwd, but not used to dealing with them in heavy conditions. anyway i went around a turn way too fast. overcorrected and lifted off the gas, and i was sent into a pole. very hard to admit because i thought that this would not happen to me, but it did.

i just bought my new s and i now am doing research on how to properly handle this car.

Its a special car!!

I almost lost the car on the Dragon back in October 2009...wasn't even traveling that fast a clip but the road was damn in shaded spots due to rain the night before and the rear end just came around on me, steady throttle and counter-steering saved it but I had to change my shorts!

I can't count the saves of avoiding some other idiot from hitting my car I've made, the most notable was some lady in an SUV in a parking lot: I was looking for a spot and following a car which stopped suddenly, so I stopped in between the lanes, top down, some lady in an SUV starts backing out right toward my driver door, clearly not seeing me AT ALL....I had no where to go, my 128db air horns saved me that day and also pissed off the idiot who had stopped in front of me.
