I think it probably is a small engine/VTEC thing. Most of the import guys I know rev out all the time (myself included) but most of the big-engine domestic drivers do not, maybe they don't need to.

Getting to redline in any car raises the excitement factor, not for everyone behind the wheel. I redline my '90 accord EXR at least once a week to keep the motor from getting lazy, and, well my stook gets CONSTANT redlines to keep ME from getting lazy! :-)

I have my wife convinced this is necessary every time we get in the car to "Blow out the gunk" Don't blow it for me, please.

I like the strobe light effect that my tach displays when it gets above 9K rpms. It is almost hypnotic... hehehehe... just don't forget the scheduled maintenance and you should be fine.

My friend freaked out when I first showed him how to redline my ITR(rip). His comment was: "I didn't know you CAN do that."

Kinda funny really. I told him, if you don't do that often, you are actually missing half the fun of owning the car (he drives a 'teg GSR).

I've owned a '92 Accord (not-VTEC) for nine years and a '93 Prelude VTEC for eight years and ten months.

Both have rev limiters. I never new it about either car, though, until this summer.

The '93 Prelude VTEC loves 6,500 rpms just as much as our S2000s love 7,500 rpm. The Prelude redlines at 7,400 rpm.

Given enough room, I frequently redlined my 3000GT and do the same only more so in the stook. What I have to be careful of is going too far and having it cut out on me!

If I'm racing my Jag and using the "manual" transmission mode, I can redline it, too, in the low gears--never enough room to redline it in 3rd, though.

If traffic allows, I'll redline getting on freeways. On local streets, I only do it to pass or drag race. In other words, if there's a purpose, I will not hesitate to redline.
