I am also interested in the responses and experience of s2ki members. I have major guard on my wife's Honda Element. The reason I purchased it was because I am gone alot (Military) and she is on her own. The other two reasons are they gave us a deal on it and the car just barely made the mileage cut off of 70k mi, we have 65k.

As long as the coverage costs less then the repairs then it should be a good deal. I also know some only cover the drive train and some cover bumper to bumper.

I had an aftermarket warrenty on my Celica. I dont recall the company now though.

It cost me $1500 at the dealer I got the car from.
A year and a half down the road it saved me $5k on an engine rebuild due to a spun rod bearing ($700, was repaired with the warranty - $100 deductible out of pocket) that the dealer (Toyota dealer, not the purchasing dealer) repaired incorrectly which caused it to throw a rod. After some headache arguing with the dealer for almost a month about how they were responsible (they said they wouldnt have repaired it that way, but the warranty company only authorized that sort of repair). Got them to rebuild the engine.

A couple weeks later the tranny started making noise. Not sure if it was due to what happened with the engine, but the dealer said they would not work with the warranty company again. I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and told them the story and said I felt they were responsible since they sold me the warranty with the car. They outsourced it to AAMCO and again, it cost me $100 deductible for about $2000 worth of repair.

It paid for itself in spades. It's also the exception, not the rule.

The biggest downside is that it takes forever. You take it in for repair and the shop does a teardown to find the problem. Then the warranty company sends an inspector to see what the problem is and determine if it's covered, or if it was owner abuse, not a covered aspect, etc. If it ISNT, you pay for the teardown and then decide if you want to pay to fix it. Scary gamble. You have to pay close attention to the fine points of what is and is not covered.

haha that's exactly who i took the car to!

but yeah i looked over what "jman" wrote on his inspection report, my clutch hydraulics are leaking, he topped off fluids for me and told me to keep an eye on it, said that'll probably be the first thing to go.

also think he remarked the clutch feels like it's starting to wear a bit and the master & slave cylinders will eventually need to be replaced.

lastly i believe he noted the rear inner axle boots are starting to wear?
I would listen to him, he actually drives an S2000 himself. Also they are not known for tacking stuff on and really want to keep customers coming back so they go out of their way to try to make sure you are happy and let you know about upcoming problems.
