Default Normal cruising RPMs?

I was just curious what all you guys are using as your normal cruising RPMs when in the city. For each gear, what are you shifting at? I've been used to my old car and shift at 3000 but it seems the S requires a higher shift.

9000 all the time...what else?

I guess it depends how i am feeling, but i usually push it just short of 6000 before i shift.

I cruise around with the engine between 3000 and 4000, but often go to 5K or 6K before shifting, when I'm not trying to go fast. When going medium quick I shift between 6K and 7K and, of course, if I'm in a real hurry I shift at 9000.

I will shift at the just below 6K point most of the time. Upper 7's and 8's when in a rush. I haven't noticed any difference in oil consumption that would be related to shift points. If I behave or rev it I don't seem to burn oil between changes (every 3K miles)

If you look at the owners manual it recommends speeds to shift at for maximum MPG. If you watch your RPMs these recommended speeds work out to around 3100 rpm per gear. So if you want a quiet docile engine and high MPG shift around 3100. If you want max VTEC then shift above 6K.

Just driving around town, I try to keep it at 3000 and I consistantly get 25MPG. That's even with the occational frisky VTEC incursion. The last Highway trip i went on I actually got 31MPG. As far as the oil consuption...don't know cause I have not been checking it until I started reading all the threads lately. Got too used to my accord that almost produces oil Anywho, I'll be checking it weekly now, but I don't think it will be too bad since I got 25k + miles on it.

During my 80+ mile round trip commute, I cruise around 5-7k rpms. I think it has something to do with the VTEC/HKS combination. I have almost 50k miles on my car and have averaged 24mpg so far. Where's the fun in shifting at 3k rpms to gain 1 more MPG.

24,25 and 31 mpg. Wow!

I've so far (4k miles) averaged abt 18-20 mpg Of course my 20 mile cruise to work is done at 80-90 mph, so it could affect mileage. However, I think the speed limits are a little lower in the US?

What speed do you normally drive on highways? 65, 70, 80, 90?
