OK boys and girls, Wantone just received the citation in the mail...

Note on this ticket:

1. Under correctable Violation, Officer Poncherello marks "No" So I can't change back to OEM and sign off...
2. I am apparently guilty for having an Aftermarket Dual Pipe Exhaust! 27156(b)vk
3. I am not guilty of noise!
4. I don't even get to sign my own ticket! What does this mean?

Question now is, what's in store for me? Penalty? Next course of action? Your thoughts please...

That's the most BS I've ever heard in regards to an exhaust. There are fools with big ole holes in their exhausts and I never see them getting pulled over. I feel for you wantone.....good luck.

LET me tell you that this got my blood boiling.
This is absolute bullshit and I ing hate cops. I hope this motherer is watching right now, i'd rip those ers a new one. Yes, domesetics are allowed to be loud, but if its an import, "They say, Fast and the Furious", get him!!!(most) cops .. i think maybe all traffic cops are lazy pieces of shit that want to find some way to people over. My dad has had 2 tickets that I can remember, my mom has 1 and my brother has one. All four tickets have been dismissed by fighting the ticket. You have absolutely NOTHING to lose by fighting the ticket. Most of these cops just hope they will scare people into paying the money and everything will be handy dandy. NOT so.
#1. Never admit anything to the police, have you admitted anything to them so far? i.e. did they ask if it was an aftermarket exhaust? did they take pictures?
#2. Thanks to our legal process, you can usually catch traffic cops on bullshit technicalities (the equivalent of not obtaining evidence the right way in a felony-related case), such as incorrect time, your ethnicity, etc. CAREFULLY review your ticket and make sure that they have all the information correct, if not, you have a great foundataion for a case and that alone will likely allow you to win.
#3 Find out when the dB machine was last tuned , (did they even use one) .
If they didnt use one, find a shop or a friend that has a a dB meter and ask them to check it. Insert your silencers and try it this way.
#4. They note "dual exhaust" aftermarket. If you put your stock exhaust on and got some RICE tips, that SHOULD trick them, and it wouldt be any louder.
#5. basically if you want any other information , i'm glad to help you out. PM me, im in santa rosa.

Also remember that if you fight this ticket, you will be doing the rest of us a favor by showing this faces that they cant make up a bullshit ticket and give it to us.

I think i've calmed down a bit. Good luck in whatever decision you make.
Matt M.

I'm curious. If you get nailed for a noisy exhaust and have to attend an inspection then what happens to you if you have no catalytic convertor? I'm pretty sure it is illegal to remove them and could possibly open you up to fines. Does it vary from state to state?

California is i think the hardest place to pass emissions ,next to Japan. Yes, it is illegal to drive on the street without a cat, . I think that every state has a mandated requirement that every car run with a cat. Yes, it would open you up to as many fines as they wanted to add. illegal modification, etc etc... )

If you get a ticket for a loud exhaust, as long as they dont jack up the car and check the cat they have know way of knowing that you have removed it, and i would HOPE that anyone that recieved a ticket for this "offense" would jack up their car and put the stock cat back on.

OK gang another CNN update I drove downtown Central, met up with a clerk at the traffic violations counter. Code 27156(b)vk, as explained by the clerk, is a modification to the smog control unit. Hmmm how the heck did the cop know this when he pulled me over, anyway, to make a long story short, my ticket's an infraction. I will need to pay US$161 to clear my name but I will have 1 point on my record The clerk tells me that it wouldn't affect my insurance (yeah right) and if I wanted, I could contest it but I'd need to post the $161 bail and wait for Officer Poncherello to submit his side... to be continued in 30 days
