Default Not VTEC-ing enough

I know some people VTEC their S2000 ten/twenty times a day...The problem is i drive the S like a civic and VTEC once/twice a week, my question is = does it hurt the car kicking VTEC ten times a day or not...How many time do you guys kick in VTEC a day (on average)...

owners who don't vtec tend to report more problems than those who do.

Does the S have Fuel cut off at 9000rpm or some other methods that stop you from revving to 10000rpm....when the car going into VTEC, it's hard to control the car, look at the RPM and manuver the street all at once.

The service technician at my Honda dealership told me the car is meant to VTEC and made to be manhandled. He said that if I baby the car, I will have more problems.

You certainly do live up to your screen name ............. "nubi".
Don't be so gulliby. This engine is a mechanical device and VTEC is just one feature of it. It's not magic nor is there really any mystery behind it. Drive it the way you feel you want to or need to or are able to. Problems won't arise just because you "baby it" (you won't hear of too many instances of broken diffs or trannies or fried clutches from people "babying" their S2000s). Nor will problems necessarily arise if you "beat on it". Those who tell you one thing or the other are simply "hoping" they are doing the right thing. Sometimes, it's a lot more comforting to convince others to do the same thing as you so that if something goes wrong, you won't be alone.

Yes, it has two rev limiters. One that prevents you from going past 6000 rpm when the engine is cold (less than "3 bars" on the temp gauge) and one that cuts off the fuel at around 9000 rpm. This will only help you if you are accelerating up the rpm range by engine power. You can still mechanically over-rev if you misshift down into too low a gear from too high a road speed. If you do this, you will damage your engine.

In time, you will learn what the engine sounds like at high rpm and you'll only need to glance down quickly to confirm that you are nearing redline. If it's that hard for you to "control" the car, then don't rev it up that high or drive that quickly. Also consider getting a shift beeper (sold via the forum Marketplace) so you can get a warning beeper when the rpm is approaching redline.

I'm sorry, but this tech must be one of those guys at the dealer who tries to rotate your tires, leaves your oilpan drain plug loose or your oil filter loose or your oil fill cap off. He's probably the same one who takes your car out for a test drive and does a burnout in the back lot. He's probably the one who put VTM-4 fluid in your diff or 0W20 oil in your engine.
I'm going step out onto a limb here and say ......................... He's an idiot.

Before I had the twin turbo 3000gt from mitsubishi. I had to worry about boost and blowing things up and what not but with the S2k I go into vtec a lot, I like the sound the engine makes around 5-7k it sounds initial d like lol.

I'm not saying you should and I'm not saying you shouldn't. I'm just saying my 2001 S2000 sees vtec all the time and the only problem it has right now is a shifter jingle

If you don't VTEC enough, the differential will experience inadequate circulation, will turn blue and shrivel-up, and could fall off. This reminds me of a line that teen-age boys have been using on teen-age girls for a million years. The thing that surprizes me is that, like the teen-age girls, people still fall for this line.
