Not VTEC-ing enough

Quote from Jeremy Clarkson from TOP GEAR on BBC, "Honda has made 50 million Vtec engines and have NOT one failure. NOT one." Of course, user error does not count such as down shifted over 9k for ap1 or 8k for ap2. I have a civic Si before S2k and I accidently hit cruise control in neutral, it rev well over 10k for a split second and now my engine is at 90k, it is running as smooth as ever. I vtec on that all the time since it is not as quick as the S and just sounds good. There has been no mechanical problem with engine, tranny ever. I don't compare b16 to f20 but I think they designed vtec to be used.

Good post Xviper !! I always thought that it was up to me to know when to shift right and the closer i got to 9k was the closer i'm pushing the eninge to killing it self. Which means at times i have to keep one eye glued to the Tach one glued to the road...very frustrating..
BTW, doesn't the tach flash a few times when the engine reaches redline? I normally shift around 8600 or 8700, so I'm not positive what it does at 9000. However I thought I saw the flashing tach on a Best Motoring video.
I agree with it being hard to VTEC on streets. It's just not practical to VTEC in city driving. I find that the car is quick enough to still "drive it like you stole it" while shifting before 6000. I've beaten so many cars without VTECing.
One time after beating a Miata M edition, I looked over at the driver at the next light and said "and I didn't even have to VTEC"
