My 02' is tough 1st to 2nd when cold, need to warm up and it is very smooth. 2nd to 3rd the odd notch, like something hitting the shifter, but the little pause and gradually applying presssure in the 3rd gate will make it more smooth. 3rd to 4th, usually smooth. 4th to 5th, usually smooth. 5th to 6th, takes deliberate movements. The 6th gate is a bit beyond the limit when keeping pressure to the right.

 

FormerH22a4...you hit it dead on along with what dlq04 quoted. Sounds more common than not. Also, when the clutch is in all the way and you go into gear, it almost feels as if the clutch disk is connecting a little bit. This is also few and far between but on a new car, it's a bit odd. I'm going to have it checked out at my first service.
