Default notchy shifting - used or new?

I know this topic has been beaten to death, Ive read just about all the old posts regarding the notchy 1-2 shifting in the s2k.

I am just about to buy a 2000 s2k with 12000km, but the last thing I want is notchy shifting with an almost new car.

Questions:

Exactly how bad does it get and should this problem stop me from buying a used s2k? When you say "notchy", does it get to the point where it is actually hard to shift into the next gear, or just a little clunkier than usual?

Is it only when the car is cold, and once it warms up the problem goes away?

Are dealerships aware of this problem, and will they repair the problem? Are they able to?

I know that if I drive my 5 speed GT in the hot sun for a few hours, the shifting becomes a little more stiff and notchy, does this happen to an s2k as well?

I am worried that if the s2k has notchy shifting from the get go, imagine 50000 km down the road, it may become a huge problem.

Thanks in advance guys

-Aaron

PS: I got my work visa, so everything is good to go. Ill be in Irvine California by august 15th for sure!

If its what I think you are talking about - I get it too. Mine is 6 weeks old and 1700 miles. I get it mostly when cold and in 1-2 2-3. Blip the gas when changing and its fine. I see it as a quirk and I love all the cars quirks..

Same here, only happens when the drivetrain is cold. Don't let this stop you from having the most fun time of your life!

I get a little on the 2-3 shift, but it's not as noticable now (12k miles) or I got use to it. It it's worse it was never close to causing a missed shift, just a feel as it shifted. Do not let any discussion on the notchy shifting scare you away form this car. It is the tightest quickest shifting tranny I have ever used. Because of the short throw, there will be a greater tendancy to feel more that normal throw shifters.

I guarantee that you will love this tranny, even if it's "notchy".

Over 33,000 Miles only get that feeling when the car is cold
and only between 1-2 or 3-2.
Happy trails, You will love the car.

About 3 miles her and it is nothing more than a nuisance. I plan on bringing this up with the dealer on the one and only dealer maintenance I will probably receive... I am torn however to bring the car in at 3750 or 7500. Can any on enlighten me. If 3750- why would I want the honda oil taken out so quickly?
