we've been having trouble shifting into first, second, and reverse from a stop.

we intend to use this thread as proof that other people are having the same problems.

please post your problems and/or theories of what might be the problem.

any shifting problems are relevant.

thanks, folks!

I only have about 600 miles on my S2K so I do not know how relevant my input is but I sometimes have trouble getting into first gear when it is cold. We haev had some chilly days here in Austin lately so I need to see if it is only happening when it is cold. No problems going into second or reverse though.

I am mostly chalking this up to the car being new and the cold right now.

Definitely have this problem - mainly when the engine/gearbox oil is pretty hot. Problem is worse for 1st - you sometimes get it to shift as far as the 1st notch (1/2 way into gear) which makes you think it is in gear. Let the clutch out though and it sounds like a buzzsaw! 23,000km on the clock.

Definitely.

I've been having this problem for a little while
and just haven't been able to get the thing in.
I've got 21,000mi and have recently LOST 6th
gear, too.
Killing my fuel efficiency on the highway... Ah
well, gotta get it in for various TSBs and whatnot.

Thanks,
- Chris

affirmative.

I've had the exact same problem that everyone is talking about before. It seems to come and go. There was a time when it was really bad -- to the point I thought I should take it to "the dealer" ugh.
However, recently it hasn't bothered me at all. It's one of those things that gets worse, then goes away, then comes back, then dissapears, then all of the sudden the darn things acting up again.... I have no idea what's causing this. I don't know whether something is broken, or if it's just a glich in the manufacturing... I duno.

I definitely have the 1-2 grind problem. I've got about 2400 miles on the car and I've had 1-2 grind at least 30 times already. The other gears NEVER grind. and I've been driving stick for years, so I don't think it's user error.

Always the shift into 2nd is "clunky" - worse when cold. My dealer will not accept that there is a problem.

I was one of the original owners to report this issue. I had a major issue getting the car into reverse after it was either run hard, long or heavy. Apparently there is a spring mechanicism in the shifter which prevents accidently shifting into reverse while moving forward.

In my case, this spring was faulty and was greatly affected by changes in temperature. The spring would expand so much after the tranny got hot that it would completely lock me out.

The problem was resolved when I brought the car in for the 1-2 grind service bulletine. They found the faulty spring and replaced it under warranty. That was late last summer. I maybe drove the car for an additional 2000 miles before storing it for the winter without any further issues.

I've always had trouble shifting into first and reverse when my engine is cold. Lately, its not uncommon for it to be below 25 degrees when I get off work at 7am, and it's a bitch shifting for the first five minutes or so. I've had the 1-2 grind fixed and it still does it. Just something I live with, it will be getting warmer soon and it won't be a problem.
