Obvious design flaw
That's right, laugh it up, fuzzballs.
But while you're busy laughing, be aware that I talked to a lawyer (we've got lots and lots of hungry lawyers here in S. Florida) and he says we should sue for pain and suffering and to make Honda fix this before some poor, unsuspecting victim tries to take a leak with the door open and gets something worse than his fingers caught.
(
Hurts just to think about it. But what the hell, go ahead and try this at home.) HPH

Safety tip #2 : Don't stick your head out the passenger window with the roof up and operate the electric windows with your toes. If you do this you may get your head stuck.
... I'm sorry to hear that you hit your fingers, but it is pretty funny.

So, this afternoon when I started up my S to go home, for some reason I had the driver's side door open. I pushed the Start button with my left thumb and had the fingers of my left hand resting naturally on the left side of the dashboard right there next to the button.
While doing this, I reached across with my right hand and pulled the door shut.
I sat there for a little while, contemplating my stupidity and trying to wriggle my fingers loose. Fortunately, the trim on the door is soft enough that it just hurt--nothing was really damaged. Eventually, I had to open the door. (Best of all, no one saw me do this.)
But eventually it dawned on me that I was NOT stupid, that it was HONDA'S FAULT for designing and marketing to the innocent driving public a vehicle with such an obvious and dangerous DESIGN FLAW.
Clearly, an official recall is needed to fix this dangerous situation. I say we call in the Consumer Product Safety Division's Finger Protection Division.
And, just maybe, while Honda's fixing this problem they can also address the serious handling issues that concern so many otherwise good drivers. HPH

Everyone else (except DrCloud), the rest of this is for you ...
The S2000 IS DANGEROUS.
It can pinch your fingers in the door, hood, trunk, or top mechanism. It can catch your arm, hand, or head, in the window when you roll it up. If you jump on the gas hard while taking off around a corner it can spin (especially if the road is wet), and that spin can do lots of damage to both you and the car. It goes so fast that a crash at top speed has a good chance of being fatal, and pain and suffering after a high speed crash is almost certain. The car taunts us to rev the motor by putting all the power above 6k, then punishes up when we hit VTEC mid turn by spinning or offering to spin. DANGEROUS car, no doubt, and it can hurt us in lots of ways.
HOWEVER, an idiot proof car would be NO FUN AT ALL, and if it is left to the lawyers that's all we'll be allowed to own. I hope with all my heart that DrCloud and his lawyer totally fail to make their case, because if they prevail, we all stand to suffer (in the long run).
Let's see, the car has been in production for SEVEN years, and (well) over 40,000 have been sold, but only ONE owner has managed to find this horrible people trap Honda built into our cars. Imagine that? Could not possibly be an error on the owners part, because he's got a lawyer and they believe that cars should be idiot proof. Engineers say (correctly) that only idiots benefit from idiot proof designs.
Am I the only one who thinks this is total
[QUOTE=xviper,Mar 13 2006, 08:50 PM]Good luck with your law suit.
I caught my fingernail in the little space between the airbag cover and steering wheel once and bent my nail back in a most painful manner.
