Default Odd smell under hard acceleration

I don't know if it's normal or not, but I've noticed under hard acceleration (e.g. getting onto highway) I notice an odd smell. I can't pinpoint it exactly but it smells somewhat like hot metal, hot rubber, etc. Has anyone else experienced this?

It's an 06 with about 4500 miles. Properly broken in. The engine is plenty warmed up when doing this too. Thanks for the help!!

Are you sure it's not just you shittin' yer pants?

Maybe your clutch is slipping. Are you using it during this time? You may be dropping the clutch too fast at too high an rpm when you shift. Or are you riding the clutch?

Nope...nothing with the clutch. This happens when I'm already rolling...not slipping/dropping the clutch. Does it really burn a bit of oil in VTEC? If so that would sound reasonable as far as the smell is concerned. Is that normal though if that's the case?

AP1's are known to use oil when revving up high. AP2s are known to have much less oil use. However, this kind of oil use is not generally detectable by smell. Maybe since your car is still new, you are still burning off some protective coatings around the engine and it's not till you run it hard that it gets hot enough to burn this stuff off. Quite frankly, without experiencing what you see and smell, it's tough to figure out if anything is wrong.
