Default OEM 2002 Security System: Please Describe

I'm shopping for a new S2K. I can't find information on what the standard security system does. I also don't know what an upgrade (if still available) adds.

Somebody with a 2002, PLEASE help me decide what is right for me. I'm not in a high crime area.

The OEM security is the most BASIC security system available. the horn activates when someone opens the door when armed, i'm sure it can be easily by-passed. but you have the immobilizer for back-up. Its pretty expensive, but the installation is very clean!! I currently do not have an alarm, but i'm planning to add one on, maybe sometime later on this year or something...I'll probably aim for a Clifford or something. if you go a-market, just make sure you purchase and install the alarm from an authorized dealer!! Clifford has some sort of Warranty with their alarms.

Ok... The stock s2000 comes with an imbolizer system. It basically works with the key, in a similar fashion to the computer chips on the chevy cars. In other words, it's useless, but at least Honda can claim it comes with a security system. For about $600 Honda will add their upgraded security system that integrates itself into their wireless remote transmitter thing. For 600 bux you get the ability to open your trunk from the remote control, a horn that goes off if the door is opened, and a horn that goes off if any glass is broken. What I like least about this security system is that it is useless when the top is down. There is no motion security at all, so if you have anything sitting on the floor of the car, or the on the seat, or if you have anything in the center console (and didn't lock it) ANYONE can come by and grab it without anyone noticing. So, if you just want a basic security system, that's installed nice, but only has the basics, then go with Honda's little upgrade. If you're going to be driving your car around a lot with the top down, and worry about someone doing anything to it, you will be forced to go after market. Keep in mind that with the Honda alarm NO SOUND will be emitted if anyone screws with the soft top, keys the car, or sticks their hand in while the top is down... So buyer beware...

Hope this helps!!

So in another words, It's exactly the same security system my Civic came with (Immobilizer key, keyless entry, flashing lights when locking).

Good thing I know how to make flashing fake security LED circuits. Blue is my favorite

I found this site http://www.handa-accessories.com/s2000.html covers the optional security system pretty well, but I don't know if it's for all years or what. Also, it indicates the kit comes with a hood sensor, but the hood switch is listed optional. That's confusing?!?!

I looked at the installation instructions and decided it's scary to have the dealer pull apart my car so much before I even get it!

IMO car alarms are useless. They are always going off in parking lots and no one ever pays it any mind. Just tonight I was parked at Wal-Mart beside of a car with an alarm going off. Just sitting all alone alarming. Best thing, let insurance cover the break in if it happens.

I bought the Honda alarm, even though it was expensive. It is not a great value for money, but I still went with it because I didn't want some twinky installer playing with my new car. As it turned out, I did get some twinky installer (oops I mean Honda mechanic) installing it. I took it in on a Saturday morning at 10:00 and went back at 5:00 PM only to find my car in pieces. I finally received the car Monday afternoon (16 hour install?), but the twinky busted my roof latches, so in I go tomorrow for more work...I wonder when I will get it back???

Hope you enjoy your car!
