OEM hardtop maintenance (need how-to)
Hey guys...i'm a new owner of an 03' silverstone, and I bought the car w/ the hard top. The installation looks to be correct and it fits pretty snuggly. I was wondering if you guys could give me a few pointers on any specific maintenance I need to do for the top. Unfortunately there was no literature or manual for it.
- I noticed there is a vaseline type substance at the edges where the top meets the car (around the front top portion and bottom edge of the glass). What is that, and is that suppose to be there?
- How do you guys store your hard top? I've seen folks create custom top holders via PVC pipes. Are there templates or instructions for a how to?

Basically, there are two methods to store the hardtop: build/purchase a stand or a hoist. I tried doing a search for the PVC pipe stand thread that had all the dimensions but I can't dig it up. Maybe someone knows how to use the search function better and can find that old thread.
I have used both methods. The PVC pipe stand was quite easy to build but like all stands it takes up a lot of room in the garage. When I moved into a new house I decided to install a hoist. I purchase a hoist system from a member here, a bike hoist that's been modified to lift the hardtop. It took a few hours to install everything but it works better becauce it saves room plus I can make it "one-man" operation with the hoist.
