Street: not yet. (knock on wood)

Autocross: too many to count (especially in the rain), including episodes spinning on wet grass.

I am guilty. Worn rear tires (been replaced) in the rain. I was goofing off when I shouldn't have been too.

1 wet spin
2 cold spins
1 almost tragic fishtail

luckily I managed to save all of them. The fishtail was the scariest. I was in the middle of three lanes with cars on left and BIG dump truck on right. That one was scary.

With all the spin threads I've taken part in I am surprised to find that all of a sudden I'm not sure what we actually mean when we use the word "spin." What is it when the tail goes out 90-degrees one way, and then swings back to 90-degrees the other way, followed by a sideways slide to a standstill? Is tail-wagging that isn't fully under control considered "spinning?"

I have been inconsistent here on S2kI, because I normally reserve the term "spin" for a rotation of at least 180-degrees.

My car doesn't spin unless it is forced. Normally I'm "both feet in" as soon as the tail goes to far to catch, so I end up sliding sideways to a stop. When an unwanted spin starts I do the feet thing without thinking about it, so the car simply can't spin. I have to force myself and the car to initiate a real spin (as opposed to a slide), and I'm wondering if you guys are actually talking about spinning, or just having the tail get too far out to correct. I'm confused.

If the original post was asking about losing control on the track, autocross course, or other venue, then I lost count a long time ago. If the question was about street incidents (where the back end steps out unexpectedly), then that's happened to me twice. I try not to put myself in that kind of situation on the street, but it can happen to anyone.

Gee, I wonder why Tedow didn't mention spinning his right past a tree and planting it in sand up to the doors?

I think I'm about due for a Phd in spinning cars.
