I picked up the Hero HD Hero Gen 1 from eBay brand new for $160 shipped. There was the helmet hero version floating around for $150 shipped. I figure, I don't need the latest and greatest, but for $160, why the heck not?

Here is a mount I made for my S2000 that goes in the tow hook extension. I made it out of 1.5" steel angle cut down to 1" width. I then drilled it for the K-Edge GoPro mount and painted it up. Came out real nice and low profile also. Since it's an all metal construction, it's rock solid for track events or other exterior shots at speed. Full info can be found here:
