Oh how I love VSA!

lol I bought an '02 for a reason. I wanted 9000rpm, I wanted a lighter car, I wanted the suspension that will kill me, I wanted a cable connected throttle body.
Hell, I paid more for my AP1 than what most people are getting used AP2's for.
Why?
Because I've been doing this "driving" thing for a while...and I'm pretty good at it. I want no part of a computer deciding when, where and how much throttle I get. That's what I have my right foot for.
If more people thought of their cars as cars instead of another appliance like their washing machine or refrigerator, car models like the S2K would still be around and being improved.
If you think the addition of VSA, TCS, TPMS, etc are good things. You are part of the problem.

I've been thinking about getting a second S (AP1), stripping the ever living shit out of it and turning it into a track whore, keep the AP2 for the streets

I own an 05 and happened to hit a curb driving beyond my limits. The first thing I thought wasn't "I wish I had VSA", it was "Man, I really don't know how to drive this thing." I agree that reliance on VSA can lead to sloppy driving, but it would have saved me a head ache! To add to that auto makers deciding that it can not be fully disengaged is a load of crap. That just doesn't make sense.
Opinions in the extremes are interesting but normally logic falls somewhere towards the center
I leave VSA on on all of our spirited drives on the street, turn it off for AutoX tho. For me its about personal responsibility of other peoples on the road; not about my driving ability or control. If you're driving this car hard enough for VSA to engage on the streets (other than straight line runs) then you're either A) Driving wrong or B) Driving too fast for public roads.
I can do STUPID speeds on our backroads without ever having VSA engage. But I want it there as a safety net, not for my own safety... just because I can't always predict whats around the next turn in public.

Well, yeah...that was a bit extreme.
I can see having things like VSA/TSC, ABS, TPMS for mini-vans, SUVs, etc. would and are a benefit.
I just wish this stuff was optional. I don't want or need 10 air bags in a sports car...I really don't even want the one that is currently in the steering wheel on my S2K.
I'm all for innovation, but making it mandatory is a little on the extreme end, too. Because of laws, cars like the NSX/S2K/CRX will never be designed and built again. Look at the R35 GTR, that huge front end is a product of the current pedestrian collision laws that reflect a infinitesimally small percentage of all automotive collisions. I can see applying these principles to a majority of the vehicles on the road like the compacts/vans/SUVs would satisfy that, but vehicles having an anual production or sales volume of less than 30,000 units or so would still give the auto manufacturers a little freedom to be aggressive with their sports model designs.
I guess my peeve is that I have to remove or mod or just flat out not buy a new car to get the kind of car I want. Why do the enthusiasts have to pay for the neglect or lack of care on the end of the public majority?

What else? are you shopping for a car without ABS, rollover protection, and airbags so your ride can be even more risky?
Bitch**g on a feature that can be helpful, that you can completely turn on and off, and that can save your life and your car, is dumb.
