Default Oh no ... FI again ?

Emailed a local workshop and enquired about Forced Induction, this was their reply ....... before u get me wrong, I dont intend to FI my S2k 'yet' (unless u guys convince me to) Still, would appreciate if anyone could comment on it.
Here goes:

" ..................The Comptech Supercharger employs a centrifugal blower which realises peak torque at the top of your rpm range. This, in my opnion, is not really suitable for your car as the torque/power issues are more low/mid range. Its perfect for car with loads of torque at the low but suffers breathing problems at the high. The S2000 is the other way round. If you really want to have a supercharger in your car, the best option is a positive displacement blower like those from Eaton where the boost is instant and at very low rpm - although your compression is high, that can be fixed. If not you are better off with a turbo setup where there's no parasitic drag compared to a centrifugal blower and you get peak montrous torque at the mid range in a properly sized turbo.

Unfortunately I don't think anyone has an Eaton setup for your car and your only choice is from Comptech. I think turbo is the way to go BUT a proper Management System is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I don't believe in piggy backs and rising fuel regulators to provide the additional fuelling and ignition re-mapping. All these band-aid solution will result in durability issues later on. The whole setup won't come cheap but you are assured of OEM style drivability & durability.

...................................Contrary to what you've been informed, vtec is excellent for both NA and FI. Just look to the drag boys in the US, they churn out mind boggling numbers with small cc engines (500-600hp with 2L engines). The only weak link of the Honda for FI is the open-deck design of their cyclinder block. However this has been addressed with re-sleeving etc. The vtec infact aids spooling the turbo and you'll feel this exhilarating rush of torque during switch over point. To get most of it, you'll need to re-phase the cam timing to reduce overlap thus preventing what we call blow-by. This is of course for those hardcore fellas looking for every bit of power.

You are right to point that not many workshops have experience with the S2K, including myself. Installing a turbo is quite straight forward though but its imperative that you get a reputable bolt-on turbo kit. These kits are often well thought of and thoroughly designed to fit the car without much changes to the engine. Reliability is a non-issue provided you take care of your car like a turbo car. With your car's high compression ratio, you will be restricted to light pressure turbo of 5-6 psi without intercooling - and this will haunt you as power corrupts. I'm certain you will want more after a period of driving.

If you are really interested, I can check with the Japs about turbo kits available for your car. My 1st choice would be from HKS (if they have). My experience with their products has always been good."

He seems informative. But I have only seen I turbo S2000. I believe the company was Turbo Technics but I could be wrong. Be careful this is going to get costly.
Good luck.

thanks .......... still happy with the current NA ..........unless i wake up one fine day with a vision

just wondering ........ u guys familiar with the TVR ........ pretty similar philosophy as the S2000 ... except that they are not restricted by some gentleman agreement (as in Japan) to built only 280bhp cars ........... a Tuscan would do fine ..... a S2000 on steroids !!
