The "Oh, your car looks like a" comments
I get a kick out of people who always compare a car to other more "expensive" cars as if the S2000 is trying to live up to or be something other than what it was designed to do. I am not new to Hondas and have put off buying the S2000 because it never fit into my life practically until now.
When people see a picture or I show people it, they say "It looks like a Mercedes or a blah blah blah". Which is all fine and good. But when someone jokingly said "it is not a Porsche" implying I was exaggerating the performance of this car, I was compelled to pull out the old Car and Driver comparison test to say "yeah, you're right, it is actually faster".

That is the beauty of this car, it really was built from the ground up to be something in its own right and not an afterthought. Remarkable performance even by today's standards 10-12 years later. The lines of the car are modern but classic so it doesn't look futuristic but not dated. That is a delicate balance that few cars have achieved. I think the S2000 is the Japanese equivalent of the Jaguar E Type (but not as iconic as the Jag of course, but similar in its appeal).
So, even though the s2000 can be had for little money now, I really think that these will be somewhat collectible down the road as many are destroyed and poorly cared for through the years.

But it being "just a Honda" can work to your favor like it did for me the other day. The owners of the company I work for saw me getting into my S2000 and seemed surprised by how nice it was and I said "It's just a HONDA and 10 years old at that".

That being said, I considered a Porsche Boxter and the Z4 but my instincts told me to get the S2000 as I always wanted this car and have owned Hondas. My first car was a Honda 22 years ago. There is no performance penalty obviously and the "prestige" of a Porsche or BMW wears thin when maintenance costs are factored in.
Yeah, I was going to buy a late 90s Boxster until I found out what the annual maintenance prices were. I'll sacrifice the prestige of owning a Porsche for the reliability (and slightly better performance) of the s2k.

i have a GPW s2000 w/red interior and i keep it nice, its funny my buddy loves my car, but on his block someone owns one with a bookshelf wing, stickers, and CF crap all over it, and its hideous, really a night and day difference
be proud of your Honda and dont be disrespectful and make it ugly, it truly is one of the greatest cars ever made
