The "Oh, your car looks like a" comments
The part I love about this car is that it really is relatively cheap compared to what you'd have to pay for other cars with similar looks/performance. You can find an S2000 that's a little older for around $10,000-$12,000 in decent condition and have a ton of fun.
People always told me it looked like a Miata though which REALLY made me mad.

My girlfriend called me today and asked if I left my car at work... it was a guy that works there, a red MX5...

10+ years ago I saw as I drove around that Honda had released at Miata-like car but wondered why since I figured the small convertible didn't have the market a Civic or Accord did. In 2004 I was in a Honda dealership for another car but got my first look at a top-down S. The S gave the impression of being a much more 'serious about sport' car than the Miata. Look at that interior layout. Look at that redline! Look at the exterior lines - the front never fully rounds oof to level, the front shapes into a rake that keeps going and going. Compared to this, most Miata's seemed more like a bean with a windscreen and convertible top. I was not in a position to have a second car and a two seat roadster wouldn't fit my needs, not to mention the MSRP to enter into S ownership.
I don't begrudge Miatas in any way though. Would Honda have taken the S plunge if the Miata hadn't shown that the market would at least partially welcome a small roadster from Japan? And the entry fee into roadster driving was made easier for many by the Miata although I'm glad Honda opted for a more serious route into fun roadster design.

I gave a random semi-elderly handicapped black guy (not that it matters, just details) a ride across town the other day. There's a laundry list of funny stuff he said, as he was a really funny guy; but he asked if my car was a Fiat...
I was more confused than offended
