go with 5.1(better to start of low), then check dipstick and add more oil accordingly. 5.9 seems too high, i think thats for a full flush where you get every single drop of oil out. with just a regular oil change where you let it drain by itself, there is still some oil left in the crankcase.

During all of my 81k miles of oil changes, 5.5 quarts always hit the FULL mark.
As RazorV3 mentioned,
As RazorV3 mentioned,
- begin with 5 quarts
- start the engine
- let it run for a minute
- turn off engine
- wait a minute
- check the oil
- add oil accordingly

those are some good steps. its very important to start the motor after the initial 5 quart fill b/c when you start the motor, some oil will filter the new oil filter and the oil level will drop.
