Default oil level and speed sensor

Help

Having just been for a spin around france I have had 2 problems with my s2k.

At around the 130mph area the speedo goes hay-wire. It jumps about and wont register beyond 129mph reliably. Generally going over 129mph results in seeing a speed of 129mph displayed even with my mate on his bike next to me trundling along at 150mph.

Apparently in Japan they have some sort of limiter that restricts the speed that you see on the dash to around the 130mph mark. This seems extremely strange considering it did not actually restrict the speed that i was able to reach

The car was imported from Japan and has a converter from kmh to mph. The company that fitted the converter have told me that I just need to have another chip installed that will allow all achieved speeds to be shown.

Has anyone else out there had similar experiences?

My second point is that whilst doing these speeds for 6-700 miles the car used up about 1/2 a litre of oil. Again, is this normal?

Interesting -- this is the first I've heard of the S2K speedo maxing out. As far as I know the Euro/N. America versions go to 999. Certainly, there are videos posted of owners going 160+ with the speedo working properly.

Your observed oil usage is normal. For 600+ miles in or near VTEC, I'd say it's quite minimal actually.

yeah it must be the conversion that is causing the problem. I've been above 130 mph many times without any issue on the speedo.

Regarding the oil. This is very normal. Expect the above average consumption up until about your first oil change (3000mi). After which the problem goes away. Stay on non-synthetic oil for about the first 15K mi before switching to synthetic to make sure everything breaks in correctly.

Japan has a regulation that every car sold there is limited to 180km/h or Approx 110mph. What people usually do is have an aftermarket shop chip the ECU to eliminate the electronic limiter. To me your problem sounds like its software related. Could possibly be the chip that was installed interfering with the other operations of the ECU.

Good Luck
