Do you guys change your oil after a hard/hot day at the track? Just wondering if it is necessarry. I have less than 3k miles on this change and use regular 10-30 oil
Below you find a Service Update which was sent out to Honda dealerships last fall. I have posted only the 1 column from the update. I made my first oil change last summer after about 4,200 miles. Ever since I have been following the advice of a friend who is a chemical engineer. He felt changing the oil every 2,000 miles and the filter every 4,000 miles would ensure protection for the engine. Regular oil is cheap and changing often is good protection. If you check the label on a quart of Honda 10W-30, you'll find it's made by Mobil. Probably Mobil's Drive Clean regular motor oil.
When I hit the 10,000 miles mark last month, I switched to the new Mobil 1 10W-30.
If you would like a full copy of the Service Update, PM me with your E-mail address and I'll send it to you.
I take my car to the track every 6-8 weeks and started using Redline Oil 10W-30 at 10000 miles. I change the motor oil and filter every 5000 miles. I'm using Redline because it is the most frequently used motor oil by guys who actually race what was once a street car (touring car races, SCCA, club level races, etc). If their motors last with Redline Oil under those conditions, I feel pretty confident taking my car to open track days. Hope this helps.
kster .... I agree. A couple of friends run their cars in SCCA events at Mid-Ohio and they swear by Red Line synthetic oil. Another guy dosen't change his cars oil very often and he breaks down a lot !
A Blackstone lab report confirmed that Honda's break-in oil from a S2000 had a high concentration of Moly ( molybdenum disulfide ). The same lab also did an analysis of Mobil 1 and Red Line 10W-30 synthetic oils. It found that Red Line's oil also had a very high concentration of Moly. Moly ( molybdenum disulfide ) is a solid lubricant which will attach to parts via pressure and heat creating a protective surface.
I have read a number of post on this board concerning which synthetic oil to use and most agree Red Line is the best.
