Default Oil change?

I picked up my car as a Honda Certified vehicle around 3 months ago! I have a question regarding my 1st oil changeon the car...when I took delivery the car had 5,995 miles on it. I had it stored in my garage for the whole 3 months of owning it, and only put around 1100 miles during those 3 months. I noticed that the dealer which I purchased it from had the oil change sticker on the inside windshield reading 11000 miles/ 5/W30 Castrol. I plan to have the oil changed tomorrow, so should I switch to Mobil 1 sythetic, or use the standard grade oil??? Thanx

The correct oil to use is 10w30...not 5w30. Any quality conventional 10w30 grade oil will be fine for you car (Castrol, Mobil, Penzoil, Valvoline, etc).

As for going to synthetic, most people wait till after 10,000 miles before they make the switch. I changed over to Mobil 1 10w30 at about 10k miles or so.

You can find a whole ton of info on oil and other fluids in the "oil journals" at the top sticky.

By the way...nice color choice.

honda approves of 10w-30 or 5w-40... so really, if you think about it.. I'm not sure if 5w-30 would hurt the engine.

the manual approves 5w-40 and 10w-30, so the engine is OK with 5w or 10w when cold, and 30 or 40 when at operating temperature... why wouldn't it be ok with any combination of them? 5w-30 or 10w-40? (come to think about it, 10w-40 sounds a bit too thick/heavy in general)

anyone want to chime in on this one? (oh xviper, how we miss you)

While this is all true, when all is said and done, 10w30 is still whats printed on the oil cap.

Thanx for the compliment !!! As for the oil, I will use the regular 10W30 tomorrow, then when the car hits around 10k I will use the Mobil 1 synthetic...

I'm in Florida, you're in Florida, and there is no need for the thinner Winter rating, so 10W/30 is a good choice.
